Hi again. I have a 2007 Grande Punto. I mentioned this issue on the forum before but didn't get many responses so I figured I'd raise it again seeing as it is a major nuisance at the point. Airbag warning light is permanent (the red one not yellow one) and mechanic says the code is for the side impact sensor. I believe it's the drivers side. Sensor is located in the B pillar behind seatbelt. We have tried about 4 used sensors so far and none of them have solved the issue. He is now testing the wiring with multimeter. Can't get the car to pass the r/w test without fixing this:bang: Now I did have the power steering module replaced just a few days before the fault came up in the first place, so I thought it could have had something to do with meddling with the front driver's airbag during steering module replacement. But now that I know the fault code is for the side impact sensor and not the front impact sensor (which is a completely different circuit to the side airbags) I don't see any causation. Does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be? Had the problem for nearly a year now. Here is a picture of the exact type of sensor this is.

I don't have the number right now unfortunately because it's in the garage and the mechanic just read it to me but he just said it was "side impact sensor" or "side crash sensor".

In my first post that I made back in December regarding this issue, someone responded saying it could be the clock spring behind the steering wheel and asked if the horn was working. I also thought it could be the clock spring/squib as well because I sometimes get this clicking sound from behind the steering wheel/dashboard when turning heavily right between 30 and 40 km/hr. However that is the only time I hear it, literally never hear it any other time, and it has only arisen in the last couple of months (whereas this airbag sensor issue has been going on for a year). Also, that noise is continuous and occurs when the wheel is "turned" as well as while it is "being turned", so kind of like a CV joint click except from the dashboard; for that reason I'm guessing it's just a loose piece of plastic or something - down in the footwell perhaps. Another reason was that I only had the electric power steering module replaced a few days prior to the problem arising, which of course involved messing with the clock spring. However, the thing is that the fault shows up as the side impact sensor(s) and not the front impact sensor that is related to the airbag in the steering wheel. Plus, my horn does work (although it needs a reasonable press) as do all the radio controls on the steering wheel.

Please, don't create multiple threads of the same subject. Sounds more like a botched repair than a common fault. I'd ask the mechanic who did the power steering to fix it properly. He probably messed with the wiring.

Right yes apologies for the new thread I didn't realise you were'nt supposed to do that. Anyway thanks for the input on this. Yeah I keep thinking it might be a botched repair but it is a completely different wiring circuit to the airbag in the steering wheel and its sensor next to the front grille. That's why it's so puzzling. I understand that the clock spring has a different fault code too. But maybe I am wrong, if nothing else works at this point I'll just replace the clock spring myself and see if it does anything.

To solve your problem, be more precise. Stop that half/half information.

Start with mentioning the exact code AND the exact text if that is also given.

- Most likely the SRS Airbag Control Module needs a reset.
- And the side sensor needs to match the SRS Module, otherwise it needs to be programmed to match.

So just an update here, I have had this problem solved for a while now but figured I'd write this in case it helps anyone else, basically the problem was the airbag control unit insude the centre console between the gear stick and the dashboard. It was messed up and needed replacing. Mechanics went through all the wiring and tested everything and concluded that it couldn't be anything else, so they sent it off to be tested by a specialist who came to the same conclusion. They then got hold of a used one, then sent it off to the same guy to be coded etc and the problem is gone.

Yes this is important, the guy who recoded the replacement module got the barcode from the side sensor so that he could program it to match using the correct software or whatever is the automotive equivalent to driver software.
