Hello lovelies!

I'm very new to owning a punto and I have to admit I find this little car to be quite the experience! I've only had mine for a few days and I've encountered an issue - well, two to be precise.

The main issue I'm having is with the radio. Everytime I turn it on, it simply says "WAITING" and stays like this for quite some time - I keep trying with every journey to the shops I need to make and it still says the same thing.

I have read previously that it may require a code, but I have little idea as to how to obtain this code, where to find it, which code is needed for the car and how to even use the code. I've read something about leaving the radio and ignition on for 2 hours to reset it?

I'm just after some help as I miss hearing music in the car and I'd very much love to have a radio back.

It's a Blaupunkt radio if this is of any help too. If this can't be fixed, does anyone have any idea as to how much it would cost to get fixed?

Thank you all so much for reading this, I hope this can be solved!

Thank you, I think?
I'm new to forums in general, but I'll see if I can hunt this down. Thank you! ♥

Genuinely interesting (-:

The radio code thread is quite active and so generally near the top of the new posts.

I'm a little confused where I'd find all these numbers - am I correct in assuming that I need to pull the radio out and look on the back? :chin:

Post all the numbers from the back of the radio on this thread: https://www.fiatforum.com/i-c-e/85204-one-only-code-fiat-radio-thread-473.html
.

Just answered my question, thank you! ♥

Hi

At the top of most of the forum sections is a YELLOW band

This is the information 'stuck' to the top.. other posts dont push it down the page ;)

Towards the top of the FiatForum homepage
Is an I.C.E. section

Click on a House..or the Fiat Forum badge if you struggle ;)

In the ICE - In Car Entertainment section

The Yellow 'stickies' include the 'one and only radio code thread' from bravalady

Click on that.. and enquire about a code
(You may need to slide the unit out of the dash to read the CODE..)

Ah you found it.

Yes you will need to pull radio out to find the numbers.
A special tool which resembles two u shaped bits of wire will be required to pull radio out of its frame.
Try Google removing car radio punto, see if there is a helpful video .

Did your radio work then randomly ask for code?

Depending which version Punto you have and which manuals/booklets came with the car you can find any your missing and download them in the relevant downloads section:

Daughters car had a similar issue having been disconnected during a sevrice job. It got stuck on waiting phase and I was about to throw it away as it had been waiting for a month... As a last ditch I disconnected it again and left the car overnight, On reconnection it allowed the code to be entered and worked OK after. Thats not even an Italian car / radio. Electronics!

So, do you reckon if I follow these steps and take the radio out for the night and then reconnect it tomorrow that it may also work for me?

Worth a try..

You dont have to 'remove the radio'

Just its power.. to reset the memory

Simplest way is pop the bonnet and didconnect the battery negative lead.. that breaks the circuit ;)

For ease:
Pop the bonnet as you are sat in the car

Get out.. check the key manually locks a front door ;)

Use the remote to lock the doors

put the working door key in your pocket

Then disconnect the battery cable

Check the key is still in your pocket!!
Then close the bonnet

In the morning:

Use the key to open the car

Pop the bonnet

Close all doors.. Key in your pocket !!

Reconnect Black battery lead

Car is now alive.. remote will lock and unlock as normal

Hope the battery does reset :)

I don't have a remote, it's only got two manual keys - one of which is for the doors the other is for the boot. It's a little.... odd.

Well worth looking into getting a replacement key..

Once its all running properly

If your ONLY ignition key stops.. the car is DEAD :(

Shop around.. should be £40/50

I dont know the cost of having a remote key built and coded.. probably nearer £100

Eeek! That doesn't sound all too good. I'll have to get another key cut until I can afford to get the remote one. Kinda feeling like this poor car has been a bit neglected. :(

Well its worth a try. If the wrong code is entered it goes into wait mode and each time a wrong code is entered the wait time doubles. In our case you had to leave the radio switched on for the wait period and it should return to code mode after the waiting period. As this doubles each wrong code attempt you can easily end up having to wait for many hours. In our case it declined to clear teh wait code even after weeks of waiting. If you know the correct code was used before, the wait time it not a logical result. In our case disconnection again did seem to clear it just as I was thinking the thing had packed up. The specific instructions for each type of radio do vary slightly but they are all on a similar theme. So if all else has failed I would give it a try. You must enter the correct code once the wait message has finally packed up and gone or you will rejoin the roundabout again.

I have recently bought a coded key remote from Fiat £199. A Key with a chip that does not have a remote, from a key company / auto key company in Norwich £60 and a key blade from a local locksmith £20.

I tried to reuse another remote from another car but the chip was clearly a different batch and it would not recode to our current car so that route is not recommended.

Recoding can be done by anyone with the MES software in 5 minutes.

Fiat dealers will give you the cars code number free of charge. To recode a key you do need the cars ECU code number. I now have all of ours safely stored. I just emailed our parts man and had the cars code back inside half an hour.

I hope you get these things sorted. Its probably why the car was sold on by the last owner. Good luck.

Thanks to everyone that has helped, I've managed to get the radio working now! Only downside is that I can't seem to find the "KISS" station as it jumps all over the place. I can get Radio One and the standard channels including "HEART" but unfortunately no Kiss.

I appreciate all the help in this, thank you! ♥

Did it enjoy its 'little rest'..

Or did you discover something else ?
