Hi All, sorry if this has been addressed in another thread already.

I've not long since bought an 06 Grande Punto. Theres a few little issues with it that I'm working through but mainly the heating. It doesn't work.

I've gone through and checked all the basics, hoses, expansion tank, coolant the lot.

I can get it blowing warm air when just letting the car idle with the coolant cap off, just to try and release air bubbles from the system. Once I drive after doing this it's lovely and warm, but all of a sudden the temp goes mental, and I found I was loosing coolant, with this in mind...

I've replaced the expansion tank, flushes the rad 3 times, replaced the thermostat, backflushed it.

Still no heat! :bang: I'm at a loss on what else to try, I don't want to go down the route of replacing the heater matrix as I can get hot air! You guys are my last hope before I just bite the bullet and book it into a garage.

Let me know if you have any thoughts!

Thanks for the help guys,

I've done what both of you have said, and cleared out alot of sludge!

Sadly still no heating so looks like I'm going to have to book it in for my mechanic to look at, appreciate all the help! :slayer:

You said you changed thr thermostat, so that is out of the question.
The water pump could be faulty, but then the engine would overheat.
Maybe the cause is a simpler one, like a faulty cold/hot switch flap that doesn't comute anymore and is stuck on cold.
Are the hoses that go into the heater hot?
And one important thing, did you do the complete air bleeding? If air is left in the system you wont get heat. Carfully, with heated engine, stop the engine and open up the air vent before the heater. If steam gets out, you still have air in the system and you have to top up the coolant having the air vent open untill coolant comes out through the vent.

I reckon your hot water that is circulating around the engine ok

Is NOT circulating through the heater

Run the car from cold with the bonnet up

The top hose from engine to rad should be stone cold..

Then after a few minutes of engine running should be Hot.. almost instantly.. as the thermostat opens

Feel the 2 hoses at rear of engine.. going to heater.. are they now HOT or just warm

You can feel in the footwell too..

In reality they should be 'as hot' as the radiator hose

Staying cool probably means they are full of air..

We can guide you through bleeding
