Hi. I'm hoping somebody could advise me. The car thinks that rear left door is open when it actually isn't. Because of that (I'm guessing) when locking from outside, I can only lock the driver's door. Other doors stay unlocked. Is this moisture problem? Or is there some kind of sensor that needs replacing? Because here during winter we have had temperatures going from 0 to -20 to -4.

My experience is Seat based I am afraid. We had problems with a door lock playing up, and it was water related, but basically a wear issue. The lock I had , had 3 microswitches in it, and one was worn. A nylon tip had worn away and the micro switch was unreliable and boy did itm play havoc with the car. The inside light and puddle lights were affected and the door open light would play up too. The switches seemed to tell the ECU, door locked, door unlocked and handle activated and the ECU needed the signals to agree.

I ended up buying a new lock from Seat at HUGE cost. On that car the drivers door was a master lock and the others were effectively governed by it. I bought two cheap pattern locks, and wasted hours changing them in and out before finding out that GSF had sold me locks off a left hand drive car that would never have worked correctly, so do be careful.

The dealer warranted the lock for two years including any refitting involved. It worked perfectly immediately it was fitted and has done for the last 5 years. I wish I had just gone and got a proper part in the first place.

I have successfully dismantled and cleaned a tail gate lock on our 2011 Panda and have had no issues for a couple of years so cleaning light do the trick. Frozen microswitch that has become wet could of course easily be to blame.

Good luck.

I have never had to repair a car before :D Forgive me for not understanding certain terms .This is my spouse's car. When I lock the door on the driver's side, there is no "click" sound anymore because no other doors are getting locked like they used to. The driver's door stays locked but only mechanically, with no sound. Also the button that locks all doors from the inside doesn't work. I am simply guessing, that because it thinks rear left door is always open, it won't let me lock the car properly. So would it be right to say that Central Locking is no functioning/not activating?

I'm going to take off the door panel and try to diagnose the problem.

I'm going to take off the door panel and try to diagnose the problem.

As a basic test:

Open the troublesome door..

On the open END of the door is a hook: catch

This is the mechanism that locks the door into the carbody :)

With a screwdriver.. move the springy 'claw'.. it will latch after 90' movement

Open the mechanism with the door handle

Do again with the inner and outer handles

Make sure it is latching and releasing reliably :)

Once it is latched.. does the central locking make any sounds in that door ?

Hm.. It is latching and releasing, but I forgot to check if the central lock makes any sound there. I talked to an acquaintance who used to work in car repairs, and he recommended that the cheapest option is to replace the lock and hope the problem goes away. Now as I've tried looking for the lock for my particular punto grande from 2007, I could not find anything cheaper than 80-100 euros for rather overused looking assemblies. However one website is offering locks from two slightly different models. One is only 30e but from a much newer fiat punto, from 2014, and even looks nearly new. I googled a little bit and found a website where a new lock from a 3rd party manufacturer used to be sold and it claimed that it was supposed to fit wide range of puntos ,including mine and this newer one. So now I am wondering if it's worth the risk? Because they honestly look identical.
