I have noticed that when driving in Gear 1 and 2, there is a dull repetitive noise which gets louder as the revs increase. In gear 3 the noise is faint but can still be heard slightly.
I have read that it could be the air intake/box but all is ok with that.
Also read about the exhaust but that has been done and all ok with that also.

I have funny feeling its coming from either the gearbox/clutch area.

Does anyone have any idea to what this could be?
Thanks
Elliot

Any smells?...may sound daft but a friends clutch went a few weeks ago and the smell of burnt clutch was a giveaway...

Does it make a difference/go away if you turn your Airco off?

Had it happen to me, and it was my compressor going out.

Hi,
no, the air con works fine and the noise is still there when it is activated/deactivated.

I will add that when I press the clutch, the noise goes but when It comes back up, the noise starts again.

I thought that, but it only sounds in gear 1,2 and slightly 3. And 4 + 5 there is nothing

(like wup wup wup repetitive sound)

haven't tried that, so at the moment I only know it occurs when moving.

Have jacked both front wheels up and spun them, but again, no noise

At 30+ mph
You drown out most things with wind and tyre noise

But if you hear a noise while phsically driving.. it needs investigating

Where safe to do so..

Quiet road:

Get to 30 mph put clutch pedal to floor.. any quieter ?
gearbox into neutral.. any quieter?

So it looks that when engine load is highest, sound is present, that means 1st and 2nd gear right? I have experiences with sounds from intake, when whole airbox wasnt mounted properly, and also with exhaust sounds (manifold leak, connection between manivert and exhaust pipe leak). This looks to me like wrong airbox mounting (check that rear plastic...what is it...short plastic stick where airbox must sit properly with it,'s rubber O-ring), sorry for my English. Or 2nd thing - bearing in transmission or something around clutch. When you accelerate on 2nd gear and you qiickly release gas pedal, sound should dissapear , right?
