I've been having issues with my airbag warning light for the past number of months. All of a sudden it just came on, mechanic ran the OBD2 on the car and the fault showed up as being the "left crash sensor", in other words the passenger side airbag sensor which controls the 2 passenger side airbags. So, I bought a replacement sensor from the breaker's yard and he fit it, but the fault remained. He said it might be a problem with the wiring. Thankfully the NCT tester let me away with it when I went to get the car tested. Any ideas as to what this could be? Also worth mentioning is that the mechanic can't clear the fault.

2007 Grande Punto, 1.2 8v, 6 airbags.

Does your horn is working?

This could be a problem with the steering wheel film/cable that is responsible for the airbag, horn ect....that might be demaged!

Hi, sorry I am late getting back to you, I forgot about the problem for a while. I thought it could be the clock spring/squib as well because I sometimes get this clicking sound from behind the steering wheel when turning heavily right between 30 and 40 km/hr. However that is the only time I hear it, literally never hear it any other time. Another reason was that I only had the electric power steering module replaced a few days prior to the problem arising, which of course involved messing with the clock spring. However, the thing is that the fault shows up as the side impact sensor(s) and not the front impact sensor that is related to the airbag in the steering wheel. Plus, my horn does work (although it needs a reasonable press) as do all the radio controls on the steering wheel.

Realistically the system should check everything on start up, so you should be able to clear any faults from the airbag system and they would reappear when you restart the car.

Now either there is something wrong with the airbag module and its giving an erroneous fault which is stuck and can't be cleared, or.... (and my money is on this one) the garage are using some bad, old or out of date kit that doesn't work very well with fiats and so he's not diagnosing the fault properly and he's not able to clear faults.

I'd defiantly look at getting yourself a set of leads and a copy of MES and look at the faults yourself. Just one lot of diagnostics at most garages is enough to pay for the MES software and a cheap usb cable

That's a very good point, definitely makes a lot of sense. Right now the car is in the garage and they sent the airbag module to be cleared and recoded like you would if the airbags had been deployed, I only just saw your reply now but if that doesn't work then I had better get that software and the leads, it would be useful to have in the future anyway. Thank you for your help on this
