Punto grande automatic: whenever it rains heavily the car keeps cutting out, the dashboard lights all flash and the gearbox flips to neutral. After a few minutes it runs again. Gearbox checked out OK. Where is the most likely place for water getting in? Help?

Water in the fuse box maybe?.. there's a thread literally below yours that discusses this very issue...

Check the scuttle drain - depending on your engine that can drop water straight on the alternator. Like this: Link

2 obvious leak paths are above

Remove the fusebox cover.. blow over with a hairdryer for a few minutes..

Then CAREFULLY replace the lid.. they are often fitted badly


The scuttle drains are little rubber hoses

If car is often parked under trees.. leaves with get in the scuttle and rot down to fill the tubes.. then resembling a 'plant pot'
