Technical Wrong brake calipers causing squeak?

Wow this is crazy , sympathies.

Are your new pads rubbing full area of disc?Or is it the same as before? Did you measure the new pads before giving them to garage and did measurements match up with brembo drawings?

When you looked at scrap yard car were the pads rubbing the full area of disc?

If yes get the calipers ,pads , pads carriers and discs off that car. Take all those parts to your garage , ask them to see if they are any different to parts on your car already.

It doesn't matter if the pads and discs are rubbish just need them to identify what is wrong.

€30 for a knuckle is very good value so they might do the knuckle with the brakes still bolted on very cheap too.

Please can we have a pic of your disc taken through the wheel with new pads fitted.

Cheers Jack

Hey Jack,

I think you misunderstood. I did not get a new set of pads on the car, as the garage told they were identical, and the only difference was another wear sensor.

The one junkyard I went to only had the knuckle and caliper from the car, but nothing else.

Another junkyard does have two standing, but have not dropped by them yet, as I simply have not had time.

Ok in that case I still think the pads on your car are wrong.

The garage may just be looking at part numbers saying they the same parts but not checking pads on car.

Unless you can get someone to remove one outer pad from your car and compare that to the correct pads (If you have measured them and compared to drawings on brembo website) we will never know.

If you have a Jack in the boot of your car, a wrench for the wheel bolts and can buy the 1 correct size spanner for caliper bolts you can remove one pad yourself.

It's easy you can do it.

We can talk you through it.

New brake pads and discs do squeak before new friction surface gets burnt and that's why they sit close to the discs. It may be one possibility that with time and lots of braking the squeak will disappear as the surface is formed.

Aren't calipers and discs different on t-jet and non-turbo? Could they be from the non turbo version?

Hi eeeno,
Please read the whole thread from the beginning and check all the photos.
Cheers Jack

I know it is proberly very simple to do, but I do not have the time, tools or faith in myself to do it all right.

Almost every mod/repair/change I have done on my own has resulted in a poor outcome. Would rather just pay and have the thing fixed, however in this case it really would have been handy if I could have just fixed it myself.

Friday tomorrow i'm going to go to a junkyard that has a T-jet standing around. I told a good friend about it (He is an old Fiat mechanic who sadly lives in Denmark) and he advised me against pulling parts from an older car, saying that all cars wear in a different way and pulling parts could results in having a totally different issues or vibrations.

The garage also got back to me and said it would take them around 3.5 hours doing everything, and also doing an alignment on the car.

Should I get the discs from the junkyard t-jet as well? My idea was to get Knuckle, Calibers, discs and pads if possible. Does that make sense?

Sorry for the lack of updates, just also in the process of moving to a new house.

Before doing that Could you try finding another garage.

Ask new garage to take one wheel off front and take one outer pad out to compare to the new pads you have while you are there so you can see for yourself. Take pictures of both pads side by side.
Post photos .

If the pads are different then you have proved the pads are incorrect.

New garage can put old pad back in .

If wrong pads then buy new correct discs and ask the new garage to fit your new discs and new pads together when new discs arrive.

Don't get used parts until you have done this.

Do you or your girlfriend work with anyone who is able and willing to remove a wheel and remove an outer pad so you can photograph it.

By the way moving house is hard work, May be think about this after you have finished moving (-:

Alright, not gonna go to the junkyard then.

Gonna go by the garage tomorrow and ask them to help me out. Will post when I have more!

FINAL UPDATE

After 347 days of squeaking brakes the issue has FINALLY been resolved. Thanks to everyone who came with all of their input!

I went to Denmark and had an ex-Fiat mechanic look at it and he tried cleaning, lubricating, etc but to no luck. He then suggested I might had been super unlucky and just got two bad pairs of brake pads, so the next day I went to a local Fiat dealer, picked up a new OEM set and the pads were fitted and the brakes have not made any noise since!

Crazy that after all this time, and all these people looking at the car that it all turned out to just be so simple.

Anyway I know in the future I will just buy OEM if possible as this was such a bad experience!

Thanks again to everyone who followed!
