Hi,

I am new to this site so firstly hello.

I am having some issues with a 59 plate Fiat Grande Punto and i am after some help / guidance.
It all started with the alternator belt snapping which turned out to be a seized alternator. Alternator changed and belt replaced and that issues has been resolved.
However i now have the warning a few seconds after starting the vehicle up of air bag failure see handbook and the air bag light remains illuminated.
I was initially assuming it was due to the battery going flat when the battery light first came on and it was discovered there was an alternator fault.
However i have plugged a diagnostics machine into the vehicle which still drives all okay and it is showing no fault.

I am a bit lost and any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated

A standard diagnostics reader will only read powertrain faults. To read the airbag module you need a Fiat specific reader or program. Apart from the dealer (last resort), the best program is MultiECUscan (MES) (search this forum for more info and guidance for cables).

Meanwhile check the easy stuff. Operate the switch for the passenger airbag, check all connections under seats etc. Before checking connections, turn engine off, then wait 15 minutes. Better still, pull the fuse or disconnect the battery, then wait for the capacitors to discharge. (10-15 minutes recommended)

Fuses could be a good place to start.

Hi and welcome :)

As above ..

Check the basics..

It may be the fault itself is gone.. but the light will not self extinguish

You have to reset it :)

To save a dealer visit..
Where are you based?

Will do,

I have fully charged battery. Apart from the seat belt warning sensor on the drivers seat there is no other wiring under the driver or passenger seat so that excludes that.
Haven't got a hand book so going to google which fuse relates to the air bags and check that then as you suggested source some one with the diagnostics kit
