Hi all, hope someone could help. I have a Grande Punto 1.3 Multijet 2008. The car will turn over and everything works for example lights radio etc. However the car will not start, I get the locked padlock on the dashboard with both keys.

I would like to test if the ECU in the engine bay is receiving power. Does anyone have a diagram for the multi-connectors that go into the ECU? I noted the eLearn section but I am not running Windows or MAC I am using Unix and these files cannot be read.

In addition any further help anyone could be provided would be appreciated.

Thanks you for the quick reply, I have some further information. In the engine bay I have swapped relay R2 (heated rear windscreen) for R1 controlling the power to the engine management unit. The problem is the same.

I have removed relay R1, power to the ECU and the symptoms are the same i.e. not "seeing" the key but will turn over etc. I checked and there is a permanent positive 12 v one side of the relay coil of R1.

I then had my able assistant sit in the car and put the ignition switch on. If I place a finger on relay R2 for the heated windscreen and then get my assistant to switch on the heated rear windscreen the relay can be felt operating.

I repeated this for relay R1 I placed my finger on it and then my assistant turned the ignition on and relay R1 does not operate.

Therefore the relay is good but not operating, does anyone know if, when the ignition is switched on it switches an earth to operate the relay. If this is the case then this is my problem and so I am back to needing a diagram but to also include this path for relay R1

The car is a multijet diesel dynamic 2008 we have owned it from new and it has about 10 months MOT but has been left on the drive for scrap as I was told it was an ECU fault and therefore beyond economical repair

Hi All,

Well the R1 has been bi-passed and it made no difference so I am now at a loss.

I have tried leaving the battery disconnected for more than 24 hours to see if it did reset itself but no good

Two other vital pieces of information I overlooked, apologies, the dash board says that "fuel-cut off unavailable", there does not appear to be a reset button for this and the car is diesel if that makes a difference and the glow plug curly light does not come on with the ignition.

What was the timing of these faults?

There have been a few threads about similar..

Its an electrical fault.. nothing to do with the key chips ;)

Regarding the timing, I drove the car to the pub and it was fine. The following morning the wife collected it and it would not start with the message "fuel-cut off unavailable"

It was left there for a couple of days until I tried it again and it started, I drove it home and the engine management light came on resulting in a loss of power.

Once home I tried starting it the following day and it would not start but as described turned over fine. So very intermittent, I tried again at a later date and it started, no engine management light so I moved it onto the drive, it has not started since.

My mechanic came round with his analyser and determined the ECU was faulty hence were were going to scrap it. I cannot recall the code it displayed.

Due to circumstances and being unable to go out due to COVID-19 I have tried messing with it to determine the problem.

Any help greatly appreciated, I too believe it to be an electrical problem

Without knowing what code it had when tested and without having test equipment yourself you might as well bang your head against a wall.

As I said it’s either the key or the car reading the key, from what you’ve said it’s the latter and probably without new parts you’re not going to be able to fix it.

There is a reason that the professional said to scrap it.

Thanks for the reply and you are likely right and it is scrap.

However as I have nothing better to do during this lock down I would like to persevere.

Looking at a similar post it seems the ECU for my car communicates via the ABS module. The post exhibited very similar symptoms to what I am experiencing.

In view of this and since I am unable to view eLearn due to having a Unix based operating system would someone please be kind enough to publish for me the PDF wiring diagrams for the ABS and ECU for my car?

Many Thanks

Fuel cutoff unavailable.. should have little bearing in the keycode..

NO, NO, NO, the main reason they said this is because they CAN'T fix it !!
We've seen a recent [SOLVED] post where there was only a cut wire from the immobilizer ...
Fuel cut-off (Inrtia switch) is I050 in the drawing, the rest is self explaining !

Hi Bernie,

Many thanks for the diagrams you sent to me. Could I please trouble you for the narrative associated with the diesel diagrams, I have the one for the petrol diagram but would really appreciate the one for the diesel diagrams you kindly sent.

I am about to investigate the body control module tomorrow to see if I can find anything there associated with the problem I have

Many Thanks

Gary

Hi Gary,

what do you mean by narrative ? The functional description or the items identification ??

BRs, Bernie

Hi Bernie,

The functional description, for example "The body computer M1 - connector G....." I have the one for the petrol engine but not the one for the diesel engine which I have.

I guess they are similar but not exactly the same.

Many Thanks

Gary
