Hey GPers,

I'm possibly buying a GP soon and will probably get MES, can someone recommend an Bluetooth OBD dongle doohicky please? I've read that some of the generic ones need internal modification to resistors or some such. I'd like one that will just work, is there such a thing?

Cheers,

Martin

MES has a few recommended adapters, although they are mostly USB not Bluetooth: https://www.multiecuscan.net/HowToUse.aspx

There's some good general advice on this website too: https://www.carscanner.info/choosing-obdii-adapter/

I have this USB based one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281145678562?ul_noapp=true, which works fine. That eBay seller might have something bluetooth based too.

As Bernie says, Gendan are a good bet as they are a trusted supplier (https://www.multiecuscan.net/Distributors.aspx)

Now I'm going to display my ignorance of all things "tech" but why are you keen to go "blue tooth"? If I understand correctly a blue tooth device connects wirelessly? My Multiplex interface can do that but I choose to connect via USB because I want to minimize the risk of loosing contact when in the middle of doing something important.

I too would recommend Gendan. It's where I bought mine and continue to get help from as needed.

Thanks guys, I think I'll go USB rather than bluetooth after looking on the Gendan site.
They recommend the full set of leads but from what I can gather you only need the yellow one?

Hi,
You are correct, for a GP you only need a ELM 327 interface and a "Yellow" A3 lead to access all modules.
I also strongly recommend USB over Bluetooth. This item:
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Multi-Ecu-Scan-ELM-for-Fiat-Alfa-Romeo-Lancia-Yellow-Can-Cable/303121626970
is known to work. I've no connection with the seller other than as a happy customer.
