Hey guys. Hope we are all doing well.

I have a Grande punto 1.4 tjet 2009

I believe i have a smoke vacuum leak, i have looked around all pipes and hoses and just cannot see anything. Sometimes when i drive i hear a faint hiss as i press the pedal and when i let off pedal it goes away.

Im wondering if:

1) Has anyone ever created one of these DIY smoke testers and can vouch for whats a good one to make.

2) Any ideas on what else i should check. I had a split in this very thin hose coming off this thick hose connected to the turbo but i repaired that and it is still there.

Thanks in advance.

I saw a really interesting one based round a soldering iron and using baby oil for fuel. Sorry I can't remember any more than that. Must say though I rather like the idea of making one too although it's probably going to need a new mindset after years of listening through lengths of rubber tubing or spraying brake/carb cleaner at suspect joints. I recently saw another video of someone using camping gas which looked very interesting but a bit scary!

How about hacking an E-cigarette ? The basic fuel (with no aroma) would be 80% glycerin and 20% glycol-propylen, that mixture is very "smoky" so one should easily see where it's suctioned by a broken pipe...

Sucking in can often be found using WD40 or carb cleaner as it will change the engine note for a second or two. WD40 is a bit messier, as it does not evaporate off, but carb cleaner can be exciting near hot parts, so choose carefully. Can change the engine note due to the cooling effect, so need to be sure of the result.

Escaping out can be found using WD40, or a washing up liquid mix, or steal a childs bubble maker pot. Again a bit messy, but should wash off.

Definitely sounds interesting that. Would need to think of away of having the smoke.be constantly expelled to give off the.smoke?
