Most days the only grumbling to be heard emanates from the driver, over minor insignificant trifles.
However, the noises coming from the steering wheel/column are very worrying.

Twice now, I've had the warning message that I need to see a trained technician accompanied by very heavy steering. The second time I switched the car off completely and on restarting it was service as usual. Light positive steering with nice feedback. Other times, at a stop if the wheel has any pressure to the left on it eerie groans and a buzzy rumble can be heard, and felt as a vibration through the wheel.
How much should I being panicking? How much is this going to cost me? and how unwise is my continuing driving despite regular warnings?

Thanks
PS simple words please, no shouting:worship:

Most probably the steering column torque sensor (or connection) becoming bad. When that occurs, the controler lose faith in it and switch OFF the assistance (thus the heavy steering). After switching the car OFF, hte controler kinda resets itself and if the bad condition is gone, everything returns back to normal...
Anyway, the default should be stored in the controler's memory, so it is time now to get MES connected to it ! Of course this is assuming that the car is in good state regarding battery, grounds etc.

When my daughters car developed this issue I replaced the steering motor, with a second hand one.
I looked at the 'how to' then followed the advice in the comments...much easier method.
Cars still going strong ,2 years later.Just make sure you get a donor motor with the same numbers as are on the original. Its 'plug and play' ..
