Have tried the spare key which we know does work.but no joy there.Key is also unlocking doors/boot.

you read my mind! just tried with multiscan but my cable for my last car mk2 punto doesnt work telling me i need a ELM 327,trying to find one(im in Ireland btw) Have disconected the battery and now charging it ,just to be sure it isnt a battery problem and also fingers crossed that on reconnecting battery it MIGHT clear the problem. Will update as i go along.

Interestingly I did replace the standard radio with an aftermarket JVC a few weeks ago, could there be a link? Also battery has now been on charge for 5 hours but not showing full charge yet. Will reconnect in the morning.
Reboot via battery disconnect would be my next move too.

Opening doors is a different system..

But people do report radio interference stopping the chips being read

Good luck and let us know what you see

Charlie

UPDATE.Checked fuses all ok. I put OBD reader on and came up with the following fault codes.P0657 actuator supply voltage A circuit open.and U1706. as i was reading codes i noticed the padlock sign had gone out,i turned key to ignition and she started! let her run up to temperature.stopped and started again. Have not cleared codes as yet. Noticed alternator belt seems a little slack so gonna replace that asap. So was this perhaps a glitch/cold weather problem or some other fault. Or im thinking maybe a earthing fault.Any views appreciated.

You did connect the radio with a wiring adaptor and not just plug it in. The standard radio is connected to canbus system by what would normally on any other iso radio plug, be the power.

If you just plug any other radio into a phone to you can do all sorts of damage to the canbus system including causing problems like the car not starting as you’ve experienced. The U code you got I believe is a canbus error. I would take the radio out and make sure it’s isolated from the canbus wiring.

Car wont start No noise at all when turn key
Padlock symbol stays on on dashboard lights Fiat code fault
(Just had new clutch)
Could it be earth fault or fuse?

Both!
Plus other things, like starter motor wiring (there are 2 wires on the single "pole", but must be electrically separated, not shorted, maybe they messed-up something there).

This is what GP-PL refers to ...

I have the same problem. In the past I have had earthing faults?

I did use an adaptor, and car was running fine for 3 weeks with the new radio. but did disconnect as a precaution, after the fault occurred, and car was still not starting. Since the condition rectified itself, I have cleaned all earth contacts to battery, chassis and engine. Also replaced alternater belt which was slack. Car has now been running OK for a week. One thought re the radio, the red power wire I was running from internal fuse box using an double fuse adapter, I have not reconnected this lead at moment, to allow car time in case fault reoccurs. My thought is where is best point to connect this wire?

Yes..

But surely incorrect wiring would have been sn isdue when you collected the car
I am having no joy with this - Have phoned 5 auto electricians but they never phone me back (Sheffield)!! Wonder if someone has tried to steal car by electronic means and immobiliser has kicked in? Could it be starter motor fault or earthing? Wanted to jack up car but weather makes it impossible !!

If imobiliser light is on on dashboard (Key code error) would I be able to bump start car??? (probably not)
