After regular service I checked if the lid to the pollenfilter was mounted correctly. Of some reason this is the only thing my beloved servicing mechanic can't seem to cope :D
It wasn't and I noticed a drop hanging from the bottom of the lid. Turned out that the bottom half of the new pollenfilter was nearly soaking wet?

Took the car for half an hours drive with aircon+heat on and filter was almost completely dry when I got back => Aircon must work!
Aircon has just recently been serviced + brand new airconcooler.

I am guessing that this is the main reason I always get extremely foggy windows on the inside of the car after every single wet night. On frosty nights there is a thin layer of ice on the inside. When I remember to check the weather forecast I always use a windshield cover to prevent ice from building up over night - but still the inside can have a thin layer of ice because it's so moist on the window.

Sometimes the winter rubber floor mats can be wet and of course that has to evaporate and ends up on the coldest spot => The windows => I get that.

We have had a very mild winther so far - no frosty temperatures the past month, so it shouldn't be any issue with frost vs. aircon components.

Is there an electric controlled valve that should close shut when I turn the climate control to OFF?
I always turn the climate OFF several seconds before I stop the car. I always wait until I can hear the system stop moving - but maybe it doesn't close completely and havent' for a long time?
I almost always drive with A/C on - especially mornings because I am trying to defog the windows.
Also the air intake spot for the climate (under the hood) is not clutted.

It's a plastic or rubber pipe that allows water to drain out from the area between the bottom of the windscreen and the engine fire wall. There will be a flap on the end of it that allows water out, but prevents engine fumes getting into the car. Some designs of the flap look like a duck's bill.

Apparently regular cold showers were not something the alternators enjoyed.. :(
 
The 2 duckbills are completely empty!
Stuck a couple of fingers up there and absolutely nothing.

Will try and remove the scuttle cover in a few days to take a better look.

... and yes - looks like 2 massive beaks. Never really notices them before. One of them well hidden.

Anyone know If the ventilationsystems closing valve is before or after the pollenfilter? Is the ventilationfan before pollenfilter?
 
Fresh update - I think I found the main problem.

Lifted the scuttle cover. Found out I didn't have to remove the wipers but just remove the long rubber lift undo 2 of the phillips screws and lift up half the cover to get a view of the cabin airintake. It kind of reminds me of the bonnet intake on an Impreza WRX :D
Looking at the edge around the innerside of the scoop (including the plastic thingy going down the middle) I am convinced that I am missing some kind of filter that's suppose to make sure that big leaves aren't easily getting sucked into the cabin. I will send a FIAT dealership an E-mail and ask them...
Turned the cabin fan on/off a couple of times while I left my phone filming into the airscooop and yes indeed there is a kind of closingflap that should seal the system (the black thingy inside). Was hard getting a hand in there without slitting my wrist but managed to apply a bit of silicone around most of the the rubberedge on the flap - hoping it might help the flap to seal better.

Looking under the passenger dash. Looks like the airflow to the cabin is the following => Closingflap at airscoop opens and the cabinfan kicks in sucking/pushing air to the pollenfilter. The pollenfilter is right up against the heatermatrix. Also noticed that there is a small hose attached to the airbox (surrounding the heatermatrix) which leads condensation out of the cabin (under the car). I am guessing this is from the climatesystem which is probably a part of the big airbox behind the matrix.
Took a picture into the gap where the pollenfilter is inserted and nooooo so much crap stuck in the matrix? Looks like I got 1/8 of Fall in there :bang:

My best guess is that the matrix fights to dry out the stuck bits of leaves while they continueously get exposed to moist from outside and/or condense from climatesystem.

1. I need some kind of cover in the airscoop under the scuttle cover.
2. I need to clean the heatermatrix as good as possible.


Looking at HAYNES section about the heatermatrix I have to drain the coolingsystem to extract the matrix. Seriously considering to drill a hole in the airbox with a holesaw to be able to blow compressed air from rear the front. I can always patch it up...

Please note that my steeringwheel is on the LEFT side. I am guessing that FIAT also inverted the cabin's airintake - just so no one is confused about the pics.
