What is the real benefit of tyre dressing apart the tyre looks glossy/clean?
Applying the tyre dressing solution on only one side wall of the tyre is just enough or do we have to apply both walls technically?
Thanks.

Guy above is very wrong on this one.
Proper dressing can provide protection against UV light and oxygen (ozone) - two things that cause rubber to age (crack) prematurely.

So this is the case, the tyre dressing solution applied only on outer wall of the tyre? How often we have to dressing the tyres?

It's purely visual, provides no benefits in terms of tyre wear, grip or life.

:yeahthat:

To suggest that it will give UV protection and prevent premature ageing and cracking is utter tosh.

Aside from the fact that it has no spf rating because it’s not laced with things like titanium dioxide to protect against the suns rays. It also washes off easily after a few days in wet weather, it literally just makes your tyres look pretty.

To claim it also protects against oxygen is also nonsense, you only put it on the walls not the tread of the tyre so no matter how much you use the tyre is still going to be exposed to oxygen, you pump the tyre full of air containing oxygen and due to the permeability of tyre rubber the oxygen escapes over time by making its way through the rubber, meaning oxygen is coming into contact with the whole structure of the tyre.

You can buy tyre sprays that claim UV protection but it’s just a gimmick as most tyres will happily last a decade and after that you would probably want to bin them anyway.

Are you sure? Wanna bet?
Tyres crack more on outside/outer wall. Because of sunlight exposure.
Oxygen as ozone is also attacking only from outside. You don't pump it.
One true thing is - dressing don't last long, so it "doesn't make sense" to use it not regularly (don't bother then). Especially if you wear out tyres quickly (2-4 years VS 5-10 range).

If it was intended for tyre protection, it wouldn't be called tyre DRESSING. Just looking at the Autoglym product it doesn't even mention that it gives any protection, because it's only intended use is for making the tyres look better, nothing more.
If you can find a link to a manufacturer of any tyre dressing who backs up your claims, I'll be happy to believe you, until then I'll believe that any possible protection is marginal and would not be worth the expense or effort to apply it often enough to have any noticeable effect on tyre life.

Tyres crack for all sorts of reasons, heat, cold, contamination from chemicals, such as petrol or alcohol based chemicals, both of which can be found in tyre dressings.

Tyres can crack when left on a shelf and never used, out of sunlight.

If a tyre is going to crack putting some shiny tyre dressing on is not going to change that. New tyres have anti-oxidant and anti-ozone chemicals in them and cleaning tyres aggressively can remove these chemicals, leading to guess what? Cracking.

Direct sunlight causes cracking because of the tyres heating up and cooling down, they will still do this with dressings on and will still crack.

As stated if you can find a (reputable) manufacturer’s tyre dressing with claims of preventing cracking, I’d like to see it.

Ozone or O3 is a naturally occurring gas, if it’s attacking the tyre from the outside due to its normal concentration in the air, then you will pump it into the tyre as part of that air when you pump up a tyre.

I am the person who started this thread :)

I have talked to the technical person(!) from Michalin Tyres India after few follow-up calls and with all of your comments in mind.
He said that the tyre dressing will have NO benefits apart the tyres looks new and If the car parked under direct sun(UV) and high air(ozone) flow areas for days/months that will reduce the life of the rubber and try avoid it. Finally said "cheap" dressing sprays will also affect the life of the tyres in long use.
So it sounds like tyre dressing is personal choice, some wish to do it or some don't.
Thanks guys.
