Hey guys

I own a 2009 grande punto tjet. Pretty sure I'm late to the party but have Fiat stopped selling the GP and also the 500's. Curious to know what's people thoughts on it?

Yep, at least in Finland you can still buy brand new 500's starting from about 15k EUR / 12,9k GBP / 16,6k USD for a barebones "1,2 69hp PopStar Start&Stop" and up to 19,4k / 16,8k GBP / 21,5k USD for a "fully accessorized" (well, the only accessory is a metallic paintwork) model "S TwinAir 105hp Start&Stop".

But no version of a Punto is available brand new anymore. From what I've heard, Fiat is going to unveil a new dealer in Finland next month, so maybe there will be a larger range of Fiat products for sale soon.

Some other Fiats that are available brand new at the moment:

  • 124 Spider
  • 500
  • 500C
  • 500X
  • Ducato
  • Fiorino
  • Fullback
  • Talento
  • Tipo

Fiat stopped selling the Punto with the Grande name in 2010, facelifting it and calling it Punto Evo instead, then again in 2012 named just Punto. They stopped selling the last facelift of the Punto in 2018.

As far as I'm aware the 500 is very much still for sale
Just ashamed to think the overall punto look whether it's an evo or grande will be exstinct in years to come. I think I've heard they have stopped the 500 in the US I believe.

Comparison is not reason, but the Volkswsagen Golf (Rabbit) is at its 7th generation and still sells like buns.
From it they even extracted "special" models like pick-up, the Eos and the Scirocco, which Fiat never did. Different makers, different politics, different results ...
I fully agree though it's a shame the Punto will disappear :-(

They stopped making the punto in 2018 partly because of poor reassessment on NCAP earning zero stars, but also because it’s expensive to make cheap cars in Italy, FCA wants to make its premium brands in Italy and the Melfi plant where the punto was made was prime real estate for the likes of Maserati which has seen a big increase in sales the last few years.

The 500 has seen dropping sales for years in the US and without a proper dealer network or support they had to make a decision one way or another. The US Fiat 500 is made in a factory in Mexico, so to stop making it for the us market won’t affect Europe and the factory they use is used to make several other car models which they can increase production on without the 500 taking up space.

Each thing that happens is a nail in the coffin of fiat. Future plans suggest they will become a two model company with just the panda and the 500 as FCA concentrate on luxury brands instead of cheap cars

Thanks Chris. I was.more just looking to start a convo compared t9 looking into a punto alternative. What do people think it will mean for people with "2nd hand" puntos. Will parts be more expensive or cheaper? Definitely they will disappear all together in maybe 10 -15 years of the roads purely down to old age etc etc and obviously no new ones to replace them

Spare parts have nothing to do the ammount of new cars being made
All the main parts will be available of years to come
Only problems you have it things like bits of trim seats new then again these are often stupid money new anyway

Unless you work in a TV show where they always find the right (new) part for a couple of £, usually after having bought a true ancestor (like recently a very clean VR6 Corrado) for just above one Quid. Beside cosmetics (leather seats, wheel drive and gear selector lever) and normal service, Mike only renewed the brakes, replaced one seal, one ABS solenoïd and fixed the sliding roof. Would be nice in real world ...
