Hi all my mileage started flashing today which a google search suggests it needs a proxy alignment. What the hell is one, can I do it myself, if not can I ignore it?

I'm assuming an obd computer can clear this, if so which affordable one can I purchase that can do this?

Thanks all!!

NO, not every OBD computer can perform a proxy alignment. You'll need a more Fiat dedicated one, like the official tool the dealers are using or the Multi Ecu Scan (often refered as MES in this forum). It consist of a (nice) piece of software running on Windows and linked to the car's nodes (engine, steering, airbags etc.) via the On Board Diagnostic (OBD) port thru a ELM327 interface and possibly one adapter (to connect the 2nd CAN bus).

The trickiest is to get the correct ELM interface: chinese clones are not always fine, specially when attempting to connect to the 2nd CAN bus, generally due to a wrong bus internal termination. Google for a "Fiat tested" adapter, buy it and a MES license, a set of adapters (or at least the yellow #3 ) and You'll be ready to access LOTS of things on your Fiat... for about 70 - 80€.
BTW, don't be tempted by bluetooth or wi-fi adapters, they'd add potential issues to your setup; a simple USB adapter will do it hassle-free (almost)
