I drive an 08 grande punto and have not had too many issues but this worried me. So my steering column seems to be rattling when I go over bumps in the road. I had my track rod end fixed on my car a few months ago and ever since this has been fixed a new rattle has arisen, this time it feels like it’s inside the steering column below my steering wheel. I was just wondering the things it could be. I have been told it could just be wear and tear but my car sounds like it will fall to pieces on a cobbled road. Any thoughts?

Have you considered going back to whoever replaced your track rod end and asking them to take a look?...

Where about's are you?..maybe someone close could take a look.
Are you not driving it now?..
You could check the plastic shroud that sits around the steering column ,maybe even taking it off and checking all fixings for the electronic steering motor etc are secure..its free.
Without actually seeing/checking the car over its impossible to give any kinda accurate diagnosis or estimate of what it might cost to fix.

My cars booked in for an exhaust repair next week and the mechanic has said he will take a look at the rattle with my steering. I have had a look beneath the pedals and tried to check if anything is loose and I can’t feel anything so I’m a little less worried. I’ll let you know what it ends up being

So my exhaust was repaired today and the mechanic told me there was no issue with the steering and that the rattle was nothing to worry about. So I decided to remove some panels and search for it. I found the source to be underneath the steering wheel just above the pedals, a metal part that sticks up. I have no idea what it is or the function of them, can anyone tell me?? The rattle is sorted now and I can drive in peace haha.
