Hi guys,

I’m after some info regarding the valve clearance on the 1.2 8v engine, I’m looking at getting the cambelt changed by a Independent Fiat specialist, I’ve asked them if they check the clearance when doing a cambelt change, They said There is no need to do valve clearences on this type of engine as they have hydrolic cam followers and they ajust them selves.

Is this true?

No its not true. This type of lifters is "bucket-shim" type, so its not hydraulic lifter but pure mechanical thing

I did search the forum and this is what I thought, but I wanted to be 100%, Makes me wonder how there a fiat specialist garage and they don’t know this

So they are not so "specialised" and "professional".
OK, there is confusion in latest engines, some are classic (mechanical), other hydraulic. Mostly 16-valve ones will be hydraulic, most (or all?) 8V - shims.

PS
Also valve clearance values may differ between different Fiat models (but with same engine code - for example 1,4 8V in Grande VS Albea or Doblo). Be careful. Plus, timing belt tools/locks may be inaccurate, not so precise, bolt hole patterns - but "professionals" should know such nuances. Will see.
