So...after an oil and filter change,on my friends car I cant help but notice that the tickover is once again 'lumpy'.
I have changed plus/leads/ignition unit and the MAP sensor..the only thing that made a difference was the MAP sensor. But 6 months later its doing the same thing.
My friend was too embaressed to ask for help after my previous input..bacon butties only go so far in terms of payment.
Im wanting help sorting this out once and for all...:bang:

Hi Nick,
are you saying the car has been fine for 6 months and then get lumpy again, or the MAP sensor had only been a little improvement and the situation is still as is after 6 months?

It's not totally clear to me...

Unfortunatly I have no idea re the timeframe. My friend didnt tell me as she was embaressed..I have put alot of time and effort into her car..
I have thought about replacing the MAP sensor and have no idea how to check the timing..tbh I thought it was electronic.

Hi Nick,

it's a very poor base to work on...

The very first thing to do would be to run a MultiEcuScan session on the car, then we'd be able to start real troubleshooting!

Thanks Bernie..I know it needs putting on a scanner..Unfortunatly her Dads in hospital and its 50/50 at the moment..So timing isnt good.
I will revist after the situation has resolved.

Might be worth trying another (genuine Fiat) MAP to rule out the replacement also being faulty.

If there were serious faults worth investing in a code scanner for, I think you would be seeing the Check Engine Light illuminated.

You didn't mention the air filter. I assume that's all present and correct?

Thanks for the reply..Ill lookinto the state of the air filter. Luckily their are 2 GP's in the family so I can swop over the Map sensors and see if that has any effects.

Must be the same engine! MAP sensors might be physically identical but have different response curve...

Cheers, Bernie

Guys, what is "lumpy tickover"? Translator cannot translate it correctly to Slovak or Czech language....is it something about "irregular idle" ?

It's directly on flap. Anyway, let's forget on MAP sensor and focus to other things like:
1, is flap clean? Is air filter clean?
2, is this "lumpy tickover" on cold engine, or hot engine, or both modes?
3, spark is OK? (I mean spark plugs age, cables)

Those basic checks should have been done BEFORE asking for help...

OP: my car pulls to the right, what can be wrong?
10 kind replies later: ooops, I had a flat tyre...

IF the poster was kind enough to provide feedback ...
