1.3d multijet clutch

The clutch on my multijet did something odd.
Over a few weeks or so the clutch pedal went to the bottom of its travel, untill eventually the clutch didnt release properly shoving the pedal all the way down.
I got hold of the pedal and pulled it back up to the top, now the clutch seems to be ok, though the biting point is near the top.
It looks like a cable operated clutch, is there a self adjusting mech, or does it look like either the clutch is on its way out or the release fork has bent or broke.
The cars done 85k.

Re: 1.3d multijet clutch

The multijet has a hydraulic clutch. There are two types, one has internal slave cylinder, the other has an external slave cylinder. Both types share their hydraulic fluid with the brake fluid reservoir.
The behavior you are describing could be air or leaks in the system.
First thing i'd do is check the brake fluid reservoir (might be nearly empty) and follow the hydraulic line from the gearbox to the reservoir to spot any leaks. Brake fluid is nasty stuff, don't get it on yourself or your paint.

Re: 1.3d multijet clutch

I better have a closer look, I spose its possible I'm looking at the gear linkage thinking its the clutch cable, I didnt take the battery tray out to get a better look.
I did have a low fluid warning recently, but thats been Ok for the last coupple of weeks after a top up.
Its been Ok today.

Re: 1.3d multijet clutch

Best case it's an air bubble caused by the low fluid you had previously. I'd keep a close eye on the fluid level.

I've never encountered a 1.3 JTD with a cable clutch, therefore I assumed all where hydraulic.

Re: 1.3d multijet clutch

My cars been behaving itslef so with any luck I wont need to find out if its cable or hydro.

I'm old skool, I've never seen one of those combined release bearing / slave cylinder jobs yet, plastic things that look like they'll break if you look at them wrong.
