This is my first post.

I have just bought a Grande Punto 1.4 t-jet with 88,000 miles on it. I have never owned a turbo car before and the service history is a bit patchy, but it was a bargain. Having read that a turbo only lasts between 100,000 and 150,000 miles, I was wondering if any of you might know how long the turbo will last in these t-jets? And if it blows, how expensive is it?

Many thanks in advance.

The turbos on these cars are pretty robust. Do Just make sure the cambelt has been done and change the oil/filter if it hasn't been done recently. Turbos can last forever or go tommorrow at that mileage.....

Turbos on reliant upon good quality, clean oil. I have ran two turbo cars and do an oil and filter change every 6 months irrespective of miles.
I consider the £30 spent an investment.
And I use an oil/engine flush every time. BUT thats a can of worms in its own ..

Don't worry about it.
Replacing the turbo isn't something you do as preventative maintenance.
Just keep on top of it with regular servicing.
Use the correct oil for the t-jet is Selenia K P.E. 5w40. (don't get me started on why oil X is better than brand Y; it doesn't matter; use this oil)
Replace it much sooner than what Fiat recommends; every year or 10-15k miles.

If it does go, it's cheap enough to replace; the turbo core CHRA is ~150 euro + labor.

Enjoy the car.
