Hi folks, we have a 2006 GP 1.4 8v which has a blown head gasket. Car has done 248000km, maint history is sketchy. Plan is to remove head, refurbush as necessary and refit. My knowledge of Fiat engines is limited but this forum has a wealth of info!!
What should I be aware of, tips, tripups, etc. Down our part of the world, info is limited.

Any ideas on what caused it to go?

Not sure. The thermostat was acting up, causing radiator fan to cut in at odd times. This was replaced, then we found heater matrix was blocked. Bypassed the heater by cutting the water supply and joining the hoses on enine side. Ran car for about 1000kms, we then had car in storage for four months, was started weekly by storage owner. We then moved up country about 100km and on the way there, the engine boiled about kilo from destination. Did a gas test on the rad water, diagnosis points to leak into water side, oil is clear.

Car has done 248000km.
