Should be the 2nd one, without LPG ... to confirm, need to know what is your VIN ...

In my eper, I am seeing part number 55193356 which has been replaced by
51890631

looking at aftermarket equivalents for both those part numbers yields starters with varying numbers of teeth. Some have 8, 9, some are 10. Not sure how important that is. Presumably you need one with the "correct" amount for your flywheel

It IS indeed very important !

- more teeth than needed: you won't be able to install it (actually you could but it wouldn't engage)
- less teeth than needed: you might install it but it would self-destroy itself and even the flywheel by grinding effect.

Why I asked for the VIN, so ePer would give us the correct PN ...

Is the VIN ZFA19900001435375 I can't locate the engine number I've just been underneath and the new one fitted is RTX part No 402650542 does anyone know if this is the right one. How do I know how many teeth it is supposed to have?

Wrong VIN, my ePer doesn't find the car. u sure you got that right?

What is the problem exactly? why are you looking at the starter?

Because I have had a new one fitted and it might be the wrong one because it hasn't stopped the crunching sound when it is started but only once or twice. The flywheel has been checked and is ok, so now I am trying to find the correct starter. I even tried ebaying a hitachi 55193356 starter and when I did a fit check it said it doesn't fit so I am totally confused now

I've just checked and the starter I have had fitted should be ok but as I say it has not cured the problem of intermtant crunching when starting. The next stop is to have the electrics checked by someone who knows what they are talking about. But why would it start perfect 9 times out 10 and if the flywheel is damaged how does the starter manage to engage and turn it to a sweet spot next start. According to a respected garage the fly wheel is not damaged by the way.
