Hi all,
My punto grande will start but doesn't respond to the throttle, check engine light is on, fault code P0657 showing on my cheap scanner, but it won't clear.
Web search suggests possible throttle actuator relay. Anyone know where in the fuse box this is? Any help would be much appreciated.

Get you a decent scanner (MES) and you will get much more information about the fault, plus you'll be able to track potentiometer values (accelerator) and throttle feedback signal. That's the very first thing to do, 50 £ well spent !!

OK, so this issue only started after I had changed a couple of fuses, cig lighter wasn't working OK now. Some of the other fuses didn't look good so changed them as well. Stupidly I neglected to disconnect the battery. Could I have a blown something major, ecu maybe?

Have you considerd replacing the fuses with the originals?..maybe worth disconnecting the battery for an hour or so to hard rest the ecu etc..

Thanks, yeah put the original fuses back in, disconnected battery and charged it overnight but still the same. Fuse box looks like it may have been out before, so I'm going to remove it and check/clean connections in case I disturbed anything when pulling fuses. Long shot I know, but getting increasingly desperate.

Update:
Car has been with an Auto Electrical Specialist for the last week.
he has checked throttle body, throttle pedal sensor and reckons the ECU is faulty. New replacement is €450+vat. Only paid €600 for the car.
Anyone know if the ECU can be repaired, if so can anyone recommend a company to use?

Yup there's quite a wee industry revolving around testing and repairing ECUs. Just google "ecutesting". Often the big advantage in doing it this way is that if your original ECU is repairable then it's a simple "plug and play" when it comes back to you. Also these repair specialists identify specific design weaknesses and substitute upgraded parts when doing the repair whereas if you buy a new manufacturer part it will be likely to be the same as the one that failed on you! However ECUs are actually pretty robust and it's much more often a sensor, actuator or often simply a poor connector or wiring fault which is the root of the problem.

good luck with it
Jock

ok, just removed ecu from car. came apart very easily and shows evidence of a previous repair. Looks like the previous owner bodged the repair to sell on the car:mad: Don't fancy my chances of getting it repaired professionally:eek:

As Jock said it' pretty rare that those ECUs die and I must insist on the data collection that I'd make MYSELF, not @ a supposedly Electrical Specialist. Hook MES to your car and check the throttle and accelerator signals, if they are ok, then it's time to send your ECU for repair, they won't bother about "evidence" of previous fix, they'll fix it if it can be ...

Hi,
The sealant on the board is not a bodge repair. This is standard to give the larger parts protection againsr vibration. Try a repair specialist.

I'm going to get a crankshaft sensor for it. The faults everyone is pointing out with the sensor is exactly the same as the issues im having.
Thank you to everyone for the amazing response and all the help so far
