Technical Replacing climate control fan resistor

I'm trying to replace the auto/climate control heater blower resistor, but cannot figure out how to remove the plug in the attached pictures :bang:! Can someone please help?

It’s not technically a resistor it’s an electronic control module that varies the fan speed electronically rather than a simple resistor.

The plug in your pictures looks like it might have a plastic tag in the back of the locking tab, usually put in to make sure connections won’t fall apart.

However very hard to see from the pictures exactly what’s there and how to remove it.

I could have a look at mine tomorrow but mine is an evo so there may (although unlikely) be a difference.

I try and take a look tomorrow and report back

Andy is right (as usual), you have to pinch the little black tab toward the plug in order to release its lock. BTW the picture shows the signal connector the two others are power (red and black) and fan motor (orange and black).

I took a look on my evo tonight, the opinion remains the same there does appear to be some sort of locking tab on the side of the connector, however my evo has a plastic foot rest in the foot well making access even more difficult and I couldn’t even get a camera in to get a better look

Can't you remove the control unit with the connector still attached ? You'd have a better view on the locking mechanism then ...
Maybe it needs to be pulled out, not pinched (like on VW's) ?

How did you decide to replace the controller? I hope you've checked the power was ok before ordering the part...

Would you mind to take some pictures of the freed connectors so other forumers could see the locking mechanism?

Thanks in advance, Bernie

How much did you pay for the resistor?

I understand that prices are becoming very reasonable now due to how common climate control has become on the corsa and on a lot of other fiat models, new Ducato vans now use the same climate unit as the punto

I've been through the same. The connections were melted, so I changed the "resistor" and connections. Now the fan is running, but no air comes out. I tried to detach the whole thing, and it seems that it's running in the wrong direction. I followed the color code of the cables when installing the new connections, so I'm a little confused. Any good ideas?:bang:

Sounds like something has gone wrong with the new wiring/connectors?

If I'm not wrong this fan is the squirrel-cage type, not axial; so shouldn't be too sensitive to rotation sense. Anyway, swap power cables to the fan and see if it improves the air-flow. Might be also a flap that keep closed. Either manually driven by cables or electrically actuated if it's a "comfort" version...

I don't think the fan is "squirrel-cage". It's the same as in the pictures above. There is an arrow on the fan, and right now it's running in the opposite direction. The flaps are electrically actuated. I did not change the connector for the blower, only the 3 connectors to the "resistor".

I started a new thread about this topic, because I thought that people didn't se this one, sorry. I'll try to delete it.

OK, something very strange has happened: I think I've now lost the A/C compressor !!!??? I've got no cold air and the A/C button doesn't do anything (led turns on and off but no sign of life from the compressor).

I wonder if this has anything to do with the resistor ???:bang:
I'll put the old resistor in and see what happens

The AC compressor clutch (L021) is electrically activated, you might have a blown fuse or the relay that went bad ...
