Hi All,

I have an 06 GP (1.2 8v) and was wondering has any1 ever tried swapping the 1.4 t-jet into it? There's a bravo with that engine and its up for breaking.

Just wondering are the engine mounts the same?

Always wanted to give it a go since T-Jet GP's are so rare here in Ireland. (+ insurance would be 2-3k:cry:)

Basically not ou can’t just swap the engine into your car.

In days gone by the car didn’t car what engine was fitted as long as it fit and connected mechanically all was good. These days the engine bays of cars are much smaller and compact, the engine mounts suspension gearbox etc is specific not only to the engine but to the car. You would need to consider looking for specific parts for the punto t-jet to fit the bravo engine. The second problem is the car you are starting with, your 1.2 punto is very low powered and not build for speed or performance, the brakes are not powerful enough for an engine with twice the power. The suspension and rollbars are not strong enough for the weight and cornering at higher speeds. The electronics already in the car are not designed to talk to a bravo engine. The gearbox would not take the power or probably fit. You would literally need to change every mechanical and most electrical components of the car to make it work.

Then you phone up your insurance company (because you would by law have to inform them) to tell them what you’ve done to upgrade the engine and they would still charge you the earth to insure the car.

So in this instance it’s totally not worth it, the cost of just swapping the engine would far put weigh the cost of a punto t-jet it’s totally not worth while.

A T-jet sold on Facebook near me a couple of weeks ago advertised at just £500 quick sale wanted as they had ordered a new car, and the punto had a hideous pink roof and pink stripes on a black car so no one wanted it.

Just a t-jet engine on its own would probably cost £500.

Cars these days are fully integrated. Parts cant be simply swapped around like they could up to the 1990s.

Anything is possible but you would need to take the whole wiring loom and electronics pack and instruments from the donor car with all of the issues that involves. Then you'd have the engine mounts, drive shafts exhaust etc etc to deal with as you expect for any engine swap.

Then, you will need to find insurance. Good luck with that.
