Hi guys,

do I have to make phonic wheel learning prcedure after timing belt change? Old timing belt was moved half teeth... But car is running OK and no errors in ECU...

Thx,

Rado

Aye. I've been puzzling over that too Bernie! If the OP means that the cam/crank timing is now half a tooth advanced or retarded compared to the position it was in with the old belt then I'm betting the EML would be lit. Bet it would drive pretty crap too!

From my experience with our Panda and Punto if you do the belt change carefully and don't disturb anything then it won't need a phonic wheel relearn. I guess also that as it has the ability to "learn" even if there is a slight difference it will, over time, learn this and compensate?

Half of tooth is possible - when mechanic changed cranshaft bearing, he did only markings by pen on old belt and valve cover. But after bearing replacemet he gave there old belt, but when he stretched it, he did not used fixator for camshaft and camshaft moved a little bit. After that I gave car to other service for timing belts and water pump replacement and they confirmed moved timing . Its possible when no fixators are used crankshaft/camshaft

Yes, especialy on 1.4 8V with camshaft variator - there should be alignment done by unscrewing variator bolt, then fixing crankshaft and camshaft with tools, give new belt, stretch it, fast variator bolt and finaly remove both fixators
