Hi Fiat peops.

I bought an SKF belt kit including water pump for my daughter's 1.2 GP. However, now that I have removed the old pump it it different to the new. Fit is the same, but the vanes are VERY different.

Can anyone advise me please? When I put the reg into autodoc and eurocatparts all the pictures look like the new one. IMG-20190223-WA0005.jpeg

Not to worry though. It's an SKF kit and they have the other type of pump available, so I'm just going to get it changed. I was hoping to have a working car for tomorrow morning. It's not going to happen now anyway. I'll have the replacement by Tuesday and 30 minutes should put it all back together.

When you think about how this works the coolant enters through the pipe at the back of the pump and feeds into the center of the impeller blades. As the blades rotate the water is flung outwards and so travels off into the cylinder block. With the shorter blade length of the "new" design I would have thought there was a very real risk that a substantial amount of the water could simply circulate around the impeller without traveling on into the block. The pumps on both my 1.2 Panda and my boy's 1.4 Punto looked like the one you took out and the Gates belt kits I fitted to both engines had new pumps with the longer impeller blades. I think you are right to give this new design a "bye" until there's proof it works.
