General Advice Please! Grande Punto Sporting

Hi All,

I'm longing for a Punto again, after quite a few cars later I feel I want to get back in something I can zip around in, my current is a landy and while its great for towing it's not exactly a great daily.

My 2nd car about 10 years ago was a MK1 Punto SX, and while that didn't excite me too much, I've since driven a Grande and for the cost they are now - I think it will make a perfect daily.

I'd prefer the petrol I think (I'm pretty fed up of how boring the landy is to drive), though if people tell me the 1.9 diesel is still good for chucking about I'll consider it.

My budget is modest at about 3K, and I'm not fussed on the mileage. This car will be mainly for me to use as a daily and for when I want to go faster than 50mph.

There seems to be a few about, though I've always fancied the orange ones, is there any particular model year I should look for, and what equipment came as standard?

I'm use to problems with the landy, is there any common to look out for?

The Grande Punto Sporting was only available in orange on the original mk1 2006-2008. Would recommend a mk2 as they are better built and more reliable. Had a white mk2 t-jet for 9 years with no serious issues.

Plenty of common niggles

Only big one is weak gearbox bearings.

Read the YELLOW stuff at top of GP section.

£3k is top money though.. so you should have a good spectrum of cars to ponder over.
