Technical 1.2 and 1.4 airbox intake pipes

The airbox intake pipe on the 1.2 and 1.4 engines are slightly different ... the 1.4 has an extra side arm (arrowed below) ... just curious to know what it's for?

Of course it is, and if you look inside the air filter box you will also see a "baffle", which reminds me when I was working on building marine diesel engines first in the seventies. A V10 engine with two turbochargers had idle problems, both turbochargers made cyclical "stalling" and blew the air in the intake manifold back through the air filter, a clever engineer thought to extend the opposite side of the manifold by 3 meters, none of the workers believed in him. but it helped.

ps: I think this piece of pipe is a part of the "sound tuning" tranquilization chamber ...
