Hi,

1)I found today a crack in a pipe on the engine. I have attached a picture as I'm not too sure what it's purpose is. Is it a vacuum or breather hose? Also is it possible to replace myself.

2) My GP has a dualogic gearbox. On the battery there are 3 fuses that were not on a manual GP I saw. The mechanic replaced the battery the day before I picked it up, and the power steering failed. Looked at the battery, tightened fuses and it worked. What's there use and what type of fuse are they. 2 of them are not the original type of fuse and do not fit snug together as they are large. He said I might want to change them when I get time too.

Thanks

The pipe is the "breather pipe". These "FIRE" engines all have one and they are prone to splitting. I temporarily repaired the one on our 1.2 Panda using self amalgamating electrician's tape - pvc insulating tape won't get the job done! It lasted a couple of months before it started to leak again. The basic problem was that, after 8 years on the car, the rubber had hardened. I bought a new one at a very reasonable price, from Shop4parts. I buy most of my Fiat "bits" from them and find the price and quality to be excellent. The job is easiest to do if you take the air filter housing off as it plugs into the bottom of the filter housing and there is a small pipe that goes off to the breather pipe on the back of the engine. Oh, and you'll need a new hose clip as the original type self destruct when you remove them. Otherwise the job is easily accomplished by anyone with even a little bit of DIY skill.

I'm not so confident on the fuses, both our Panda and Punto are manuals, but someone will come along here soon, probably? with an answer. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you with your autobox. There do seem to be quite a number of posts about them going wrong. Come to think of it I think I'll cross my toes for you too!

If you are going to be doing a lot of your own maintenance and repairs it's worth knowing Shop4parts ship free if your order is large enough (£25.00 last time I ordered) and if you make even a very small donation to support the forum you can access the forum discount they offer - not huge but well worth having. By the way I have no connection to them, just a happy customer. They are also very helpful if you ring for advice on parts and don't make you feel a complete numpty just because you don't know the trade name for the part you want. They supply genuine Fiat or OEM quality parts.

Hi ? !
If I remember correct, The innermost (F3) 60A is a prefuse for the hidden fuse box at the left side of the luggage compartment, the mid (F6) 70A is as you know for the power steering, and the outermost (F7) 30A is for the dualogic hydraulic pump, I know that for sure, I have blown a couple lately, the pressure accumulator has blown internal, so every time I open the door, the pump is running for much to long, and it is running after 2 or 3 gearshift. (I have to use manual mode for controll of the time between shift). (I have ordered a new one from Shop4Parts.). It can also on a MJD be a 50A for the preheating circuit.

Thanks for the reply,

Will be looking on there tonight for a replacement, looks like an easy job thanks. I've heard about these cracking or splitting often.

I've had a few problems with my auto, sometimes it can't get first from neutral and recently won't go into auto mode, only manual. Also my USB port and Bluetooth don't work. And as from a week ago I can't turn off my headlights or they flicker.

Thank you for your knowledge :)

Always wondered what they are, will order some replacements. Have you ever experienced my problem above?

Are the power steering and luggage prefuse in the engine fuse box on manual GPs then?

Sometimes...

I believe the battery-mounted fuse box was fitted to all the earlier Grande Puntos. It was deleted from the later models and the engine bay fuse box re-engineered - possibly to make it more waterproof.

My 2006 1.2 with manual gearbox has the battery box. It only has F6 (power steering) though - neither of the other two being required for my model.

That's correct, only early GPs have the fuse holder populated, more recent ones (don't know since when though) have just jumpers and probably the EVOs even got rid of the bulky connector and has "standard" ones .. (?)
