Normally thete is a plastic collar on the end of the cable.. that sits into the brake backplate.


Same as the one you took out


If in doubt....
. Look at the opposite rear brakes.. !!


If you are struggling with the cable nipple.. it often sits on the WRONG SIDE of the operating lever : torque arm

And you just slip the cable through the slot..


Ive not done disc rears on a FIAT for 20 years..
