I struggled to find info on ANY model with mj.. so when I did mine I took pics.

Initially remove:slacken the clips or fixtures from the 2 large hoses.

I left the meter casing bolted to the airbox.. just unplugged the cable


Then lift the front corner off of the mounting spike ( watch where the rubber grommett goes) ;)

Then you can twist .. wriggle.. the airbox upwards.. the hoses will come away..

and then you can slide the airbox towards you.. away from the rear spike and socket.

I found the rubber grommet would squeeze into the airbox socket

Then it is ready for reassembly.

Initially locate rear spike and socket

Then teinstall the 2 hoses. Meter one 1st as it goes better with a twist.. the lower one just plugs in relatively easily.

Then firmly press the front airbox corner onto the spike.. should be a snug fit on the grommett ;)

Now.. plug in the meter cable.

Reconnect the hose clips.

I am trying to remove the air filter on a 2016 1.3 JTDm.. looks like a similar fixing... Could you please explain what you mean by;

"the rubber grommet would squeeze into the airbox socket"

The airbox on my car has what look to be similar pillars that it is fixed to, but I can't turn them and can't get the air box off them... Do I need to squeeze / ease the box over the top of these pillars??

Or do they unscrew???

The two center fixing?
If so they should come up with h a tug upwards
Just make sure the two pipes are removed first to avoid damage
 
On 1.3 mjt's, the air filter housing sits on two (front) pilars and one (back) "push-in" rubber thingy;

- disconnect the connector and the hose from the MAF sensor
- lift the front of the air box (snap it off the pilars)
- pull it toward front of the car to disengage the back pin from the rubber thingy

You might pour some dish wash liquid in the pilars pits some hours before to ease removal. Before reinstall, clean them and lube with vaseline: any squeeking noise will be avoided and future removal will be eased. The back rubber gromet will probably be badly worn: replace it (dealer sourcing only) for noise hunting ...

Hi, No not yet... I need to go back out later, remove some bits again (the cover over the air-box) and take another look and maybe some pics..
 
Its a 500L Trekking The VIN is ZFA19900005338576 but I can't that to show in any vin decoders... Its a 2016 Euro 6 engine..
 
The newer engine cover/filter is a lot like the old one just made to look a bit prettier. It should come off in the same way as Charlie has described above. Actually many fiat and other engine covers, are held on with the same ball and socket type clips and they just pull off

The obvious difference is that you have to disconnect any piperwork if the cover is also the air filter
