The glow plug warning has shown up on the dash since I bought my 1.3 multijet about 6 months ago. I don't drive the car often and have been having trouble starting it recently due to the cold weather.

Would this be down to the battery maybe running flat due to lack of use or do my glow plugs need changing / maintenance?

Thanks in advance.

Probably a bit of both
Get the battery tested by your local motor spares place many have the equipment to do it and will test them for free

Allthrough glow plugs not working will always make starting harder

When you say "glow plug warning has shown up" do you mean it comes on for a feww seconds when to turn the ignition on (this is normal) or is it staying on / flashing? if the latter you probably have one or more bad glow plugs.

A multimeter will tell which one(s) are faulty or just change all 4.

Access is good on the 1.3.

Hi.

When you want to do a cold start.

Let the coiled glow plug light go out..

IMMEDIATELY turn ignition off ..and back on

now wait for the light to go out a 2nd time as soon as it goes out.. crank the engine.

IF it starts better like that you have a bad glowplug (possibly 2)

Look in TECH talk.. I am discussing changing my plugs on my MJ GP

A low battery will NOT bring the glow plug warning, a bad (or more) glow plug WILL ... !
