Tried starting my car today, 56 plate Punto grande 1.2 petrol and nothing is happening. No noises, nothing. Tested battery and it’s fine any ideas from anyone would be greatly appreciated!

Faq.. random electrical.. :)

Shows how to check main earth ..

And covers damp fusebox..

Thats the 2 most common.;)

When you said it is DEAD what lights up?

Interior light..?

Sidelights.

Any dashlights??

Have you got a 2nd key?

Have fun.. !!

Thanks I’ll have a look, and all lights work, I’ve just tried jump starting to no success so I’m confident batter is okay. Also tried using a negative lead from the battery to ground and that also did not work. And no second key I’m afraid :(

Is it the electrical gremlins thread you meant for me to have a look at??

Hi (who?) and welcome on board !

we don't even know what's your engine or if it has a dualogic gearbox ...
"Nothing" is too vague in this case, for me it mean that NO thing happens, i.e. no light, no horn, no dashboard light, no cranking: nada, niente, niks, rien, as if the battery was removed; get it ?
We NEED you Guys to be more precise in your issue description !!

Sorry mate as said completely new to the forum, and it’s a 1.4L petrol and when I said nothing I mean there was no attempt for the car to start, no cranking, no ticking, however all electronics in the car worked so just to be sure chucked a multimeter on the battery and as suspected it was fine.
Ended up getting the car towed somewhere safer where I can have a proper look but I’m guessing the most likely culprit will be the starter motor.

Obviously the starter circuit (if not the starter itself), you can direct connect the starter 'launcher' to battery + to try to activate the solenoid: if it cranks the issue comes from command circuit, if it doesn't even pull your starter is most probably dead (brushes ?)...

If someone here helped You fix -or better, understand- your issue, hit the thanks icon @ bottom right corner, it's free and makes us feel helpy ;-)

Already tried this one I believe guys through the electrical gremlin thread and no changes. Will try directly connecting the starter solenoid to the battery and see if any cranks occur. So basically if it cranks the problem lies within the ground connections somewhere and if it doesn’t it’s likely a starter motor problem?

Hi.
When you turn the key.. do the lights go DIM.. or stay bright?

That will give a clue about the starter ;)

(If the car is still stranded.. you have the option of towstarting it.)

Best to rule out major electrical issues first though

The car is towed and no fairly certain lights do not dim, all light options work fine with no signs of dimming lights. You think this is starter motor buddy?
