So for the €50 price difference I could pay for AlfaOBD or MultiECUScan and use one of them to calibrate it! But do I need a special calibration box?

This issue of calibration and what's needed to do it is the only thing that I'm not sure about. Hmm. I'm still not decided. In any case I need to go back and take a photo of the numbers on the underside power steering unit because I took photos of the numbers on the motor and next to the sensor but not underneath and those are the ones I need!

Well, okay I can go to the local scrappy and see what they have, it's true that they might have something suitable. There are various ones like that on Ebay France too, but I would prefer something refurbished.
The item description is very funny when compared with the photos: "ITEM IS IN GOOD WORKING ORDER AND CONDITION (SEE PHOTOS)"

It was the price I was referring too..just as a guide. If you prefer reconditioned then there's currently two on ebay,from Italy for under £200,delivered to the UK so Im assuming its similar price to you.
Thing I like about ebay is paypal and user reputation/feedback. If it says its gonna work,and it dont then back it goes.

That's a good point about the Ebay buyer protection when using Paypal, definitely worth bearing in mind.

THIS is who I would happily buy from. I have had very good services and brilliant communications with in the past.BUT obvs its no good if the numbers dont match.

Thanks for the tip nikrox. Unfortunately those numbers don't match, my car has part number 55701321. Putting that part number into Ebay brings up quite a few options, most from Italy, so I need to learn another language!

Based on these prices the smart money is to get another column, not just replace the sensor. I'll also see what the local scrappy has.
