Hey,

So I'm gonna be commuting 70 miles a day soon and want to know if there is anything I should watch out that I wouldn't normally expect other than regular oil changes, etc. If you know me already then you'll know what car I have, but for those who don't.

1.2 Grande Punto 2007 5 door with around 90-95k miles on the clock.

I do regular motorway runs as it is but they are usually once every few weekends, this would now be every working day.

Secondly, is the 1.2 engine really up for this sort of stuff or would I be better off selling my current gp and getting a 1.3 multi-jet gp or something similar?

Kind Regards,

How long are you going to be doing that mileage for?

If you have the 1.2 and its mostly motorway miles then your fuel bill is going to be huge and for that reason alone you might be better off looking at a diesel.

Consider running your tyre pressures higher and removing any unnecessary weight. And just regularly keep an eye on the condition of the tyres as well as the oil and water.

I'll be doing this for a while, hopefully for a year. I get about 350-400 miles per tank and don't run it into the red, usually to the notch above the red before I refill. The trip computer says I get between 45-50mpg most of the time although I have hit higher in some occasions.

Some bits I'm going to get sorted out before I start is to get new front tyres, any recommendations? I've heard Landsail are good.
New coil pack to hopefully get rid of my flashing engine management light, it's showing codes that correspond with engine misfires. I've also been told that the phonic wheel could be the problem, I've tried calibrating it using the method and I believe it worked for a while but the light is back blinking alway again. Is it a sign that the timing belt needs replacing?

Regarding tyres Dunlop Sport SP1 or Dunlop SP30 are the quietest tyres out there.

Can you post the error codes, sure someone on here will be able to help you.

I'll take a look at those tyres when I can afford to. £100 for a set is not too bad, do they do 175 size? I can't seem to find that on the website. I unfortunately have steel wheels you see. I wanted to get alloys, but have decided that since I want air con that I'll be better off getting another car in a few months.

As of now though I don't want to break down anywhere so here are the stored engine codes:

P0219 - Engine Overspeed Condition
P0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0302 - Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
P0303 - Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected

I can probably explain the P0219 code. An idiot in a clio decided it was best to pull onto the a46 in pitch darkness with no lights on and drive at like 10mph. I couldn't stop in time and had cars to my right, so braking hard I dropped into 2nd gear and took the small opportunity I had to get into the right hand lane. When I dropped the clutch it went upto 6k rpm and I stupidly put my foot down and had the revs bouncing off 6.5k rpm panicking at that point as I had headlights coming up behind me at some pace. The engine has been fine since, but this code won't clear. The other codes clear, but P0219 doesn't.

The other codes I keep being told it's either the coil pack, spark plugs or my cam belt.
