They actually work ! But initially You'd have to bring them close to the drum: there is one position of the drum where you can access the adjustment teethed wheel through one of the rim hole (not very easy tho).
What I do is grinding-off the lip that's created by drum's wearing so insertion and removal can be easily done. Loose the adjuster at handbrake lever and tighten the self adjusters so you can just slip the drums back in place. Final adjustment is done @ the handbrake lever.
