Hey,

Today i found out the back pot of my exhaust and the back pipe got seperated (picture). Also the part holding the pipe up in the back has rusted away. Is there a temporary fix i can do or is it straight to the Mechanic?

Sincerely, Thomas.

I'm from Denmark, and yes it is the rear box.

No Mc Gyver trick at this break location :-(
Multi-folded aluminium foil and a piece of wire would temporary fix a broken (in its middle) pipe, but here it's too close to the box …

You could weld it but given the location, it's likely you'd be trying to weld to already badly rusted metal and the welder would blow holes in it.
As already stated it would likely cost you as much to get someone to weld it as it would replace it, and If you're handy under the car and can save money by either welding it or replacing it yourself then, it would be far better to replace it as it would then last another 5- 10 years, welding it might only last a few days, especially if its badly rotten, or may last a month or more if its just the joint that's gone.

Its hard to tell in your picture but it looks like the pipe maybe badly rusted, so its unlikely you would get a good weld that would last

You could weld a slightly larger Ø piece of pipe on the box, 5cm / 2" is enough, make some saw cuts in it, insert the broken pipe and tight the bigger with a clamp. That should make it for a few months, even more …

Probably a bit overkill to get something to last a month. the standard pipe i believe is 52mm anyway.

If it's rotten then it's going to need replacing and exhausts are reasonably cheap and easy to replace at home.

A short piece of larger pipe would last more than a month and is certainly not silly. That all depend on how bad the existing pipe and box are and on availability of the piece of pipe ...
Thomas was asking for a temporary Mc Gyver fix, this one is the closest approach I can think of ;-)
BTW a fairly skilled welder would do that easily with a MIG.

Got it welded, the mechanic said it was an older weld that had broken off because last gime ir was welded it wasnt done properly. They also told me this weld would last at least a couple of months.

Thanks for the update Thomas, let us knows when it'll die ;-)
BTW, how much was it for the welding ?
