having issues connecting my amp to my grande punto!!!!

ran all cables (have checked with multimeter) amp will go into protection mode with rca cables connected,

do I need to ground my headunit as I took out original mounting cage to fit it?

head unit is a Sony multimedia recicver
sub and amp is a Juice 1000 watt

Even tried with batt neg hooked to ground in case of bad ground issue. I'm stuck and very frustrated.

Does the headunit switch on without RCA cables connected?
Does the headunit switch on with RCA cables connected?
Does the amp switch on without RCA cables connected (ie. red power, black earth, blue remote connected)?

I personally like to ground back to batt- but it's by no means essential

HU works with or without rca connected

connected red (power)

brown (ground to neg battery incase the issue was a ground problem)

jumped the remote from the power to rule out bad remote line

red light is protection and Will go green for power.

no rca no lights, rca in red light (protection)

do they need grounding? I had to remove the original cage in the dash to fit new head unit would this be grounded via black input cable or would body need a separate ground.
would it be worth trying to use the high level inputs.

I love my punto but seem to be falling out with it every time I do somthing have installed amps and subs on 3 other cars (for friends) and never had an issue.

Does it do the same when using another input to the amp? (connect am old mp3 player)

I'd say you're inputting High power straight into a Low input.

haven't tried that yet I gave up before I punched out all my Windows and burnt the car out because thus far it has defeated me as I have ran out of options of where to go, i don't have anything I can think of with an rca connection, debating a professional but am already £70 down with fitting kit and bits of needed so woukd like to avoid them.

Whereabouts in the country are you? Is it an RCA output from the headunit, or have you spliced into the speaker cables?

I'm in newport, south wales its RCA input didn't want to try splicing speaker wires incase the problem carried on then I'm be no further

I'd do an "off the car" installation to verify the setup is working, then implement it in the car… Do you mean the power amplifier goes into protection mode ? If so there is probably a short with its output(s), or the input signal is too high…

Keep us informed before putting your GP into fire ;-)

Bit far from me to have a look ;) What headunit are you using?

sorry it went on twice clearly shouldnt be messing with my car when i cant use the internet haha it's a sony dsx-a200ui wanted a pioneer but no stock by me at the time but works for all other purposes

lol I'm closer than ild like to be regarding the fire haha I striped all cables out earlier when i lost the will to carry on, in the morning I will wire the power to pos, ground to batt neg and see if u can get anywhere it makes it worse if done this a few times before but this 1 just dosent want to work? proberly because this 1 is for myself, always hitting problems for instance tried to ground to the boot latch snapped the nut welded underneath so now got 1 bolt half in half out not attached to anything lol

Shoemakers are Always the worstly shoe'ed (literal translation from French) …

What was the idea behind grounding in the hatch latch ? There is an "official" grounding point at the back !!

are you talking about the nut with 2 wires in the boot behind the passenger side carpet which looks like a GROUND POINT?, (please say no, i was originally attached to this but didn't get any lights atall, so went for the next closest thing and broke it)

I have also spoken a LOT of French today mainly 4 letter words ?

Hi Mike, sorry but have to say YES … C030 is the common grounding point for brake lights, defrost, lock motor etc.
From re-reading your post it seems obvious that the input is the culprit, have you tried another source as cleverly suggested earlyer ??

4 letters ? You mean the English version count for M...e ;-) ?

I am truly deverstated haha I don't have another input i tried using the head unit i took out (7 inch motorised touch screen, ripspeed) but it had been in my boot for a few months and started smoking but didn't blow a fuse so I may of hit it a few times and then threw it up my driveway so gonna take an educated guess that that 1 is now out of service. planning on sending this sub back and buying different 1 as with just power, switch and ground i don't get any lights but as soon as RCA touches it get the red light, I'm hoping there is a problem with the built in amp and getting a new 1 will fix it. I can't take it apart to check shorted speaker wire otherwise I won't be able to send it back.

Thanks for all your help so far ill keep you posted.

Seems your are missing the ground, that is connecting thru the RCA shielding …

As suggested: do a Bench simulation with a separate battery or better power supply where you could monitor (and limit) the current drawn …

narrowed the problem down to my car, returned the amp purchased a completely different one, used ground in boot 0030 i think it was from the earlier diagram connected power as soon as battery was connected the fuse on the amp blew so either this is a bad ground or I'm the most unfortunate person at this moment now £200 down and licking my wounds.
