So I brought an aftermarket gear knob as mine has seen better days. I’ve installed it but the problem is the leather (gaitor) is pulled extremely tight when going into reverse, I can’t lower the knob because if I screw it on anymore the adapter thing will go past the thread and just be on smooth metal.

I need to lower the gear knob so that it doesn’t yank the leather unless there is any other options.

Any advice?

You could get a bigger gaitor that isn't pulled as tight, or take it out and see if it can be loosened a bit.

Cheers mate, know of any longer ones I can buy? Does it have to be for a punto or can I get away with just any assuming it’s the same fitting. Tried making it a little less tight but not much help.

Thanks again,
Reece

Tbh, it doesn't have to be for a punto, aslong as it's big enough. There are no specific fittings you need so you could get any, or even make your own. If I were you I'd get a square fitting one so it fits on the bottom, if it's made for something that is circular at the bottom it might not fit.
