Hi, I've owned my 2009 Fiat punto TJet 1.4 since December now and loved every drive, it's a brilliant car and a huge upgrade from my old Mk4 Golf 1.4 haha
Engines running very sweet, no roughness or rattles, good power, lots of torque from 2k onwards but pretty linear with no real jump in power after that, no point Reving over 4,5k really
Clutch is right at the bottom and bites good so I reckon it's had a clutch recently, turbo also looks pretty new so guessing it had a replacement at some point. Gearbox seems to of been split before as it's got Rtv on the seams, guessing it's suffered the usual problems in the past.
Engine is completely standard however has a regazzor backbox delete.
I have receipts from previous owner that it had an intake and some various silicon hoses etc, all is removed now but I'm guessing this cars been fiddled with before, fuel millage is pretty horrible if I'm honest, trip says 38mpg on my usual commute, however I'm using £40 worth a week over 250 miles of motorway, backroads and bypass driving, with about 3 of the 25 mile commute being in town traffic. Exhaust tips get very black, this along with the bad mpg makes me think the cars been remapped before to suit the previous modifications.

What's everyone's views on getting a reputable company such as Celtic tuning to remap my car, I know the millage is high but the engine seems very smooth, tomorrow I will do a once over on the engine along with compression test and checking the turbo for play, I do an oil change roughly every 5-7k miles and just had some fresh Shell Helix ultra 1k miles ago and gearbox oil was changed when I got it.
Anyone know what the compression readings should be for this engine?
Anyone on here owned this car before aswell by any chance? Could maybe shed some light on its past, registration WV59 LLX, White with black wheels

My T-Jet only ever gets over 40mpg on an open road sitting below 70mph so I reckon your economy is about normal. Even driving gently, it's pretty thirsty around town although I didn't buy my for fuel economy.
Exhaust tips on mine have always got a bit black but it is clean according to MOT and diagnostic test. If you get a copy of Fiat MES on a Windows laptop you will be able to see if the ECU has had a rewrite. If it has a number above 0, definitely don't get a map flashed on, you'll want it on a Dyno first as chances are it will have been mapped.
Before remapping (or just for good measure), take the air intake off the turbo and check for any play, mine was really quite bad at 68,000. If this is the case rebuild it before any remapping to reduce the chance of if going pop and causing serious damage.
I'd be inclined to get a custom map on a dyno rather than a generic flash, if you do want to go that way you may as well get a Bluespark box instead of a generic map. At least you can remove it if you're not happy and it will have some resale value.

Cheers

Ben

Drop the motorway speed a bit and the mpg will get better... but in reality it's about where it should be for a t-jet Bravo (the dash and the 40gbp/250miles are pretty close).

RTV ..might mean it's got the gearbox bearings replaced.. that's nice to know.

If you are thinking about a tune:
-only on a dyno!
-is it the t-jet 150 or the 120?... it's probabbly the 120... so you might want to upgrade the turbo before the map(should be only a couple of hundred pounds more)... so you get the most out of it... ~180 hp vs 140 hp

Engine compression tests, i've see multiple t-jets get around 140-150 psi.... it might seem a bit low... but seems common on the t-jets...might be because of the lower compression ratio.. or might be because they don't do the test right, not having the throttle plate 100% opened or because they don't remove the piping from the throttle body.

Yes that sounds like the stock tjet engine.

Usual problems ? GP's gearbox doesn't have any usual problems.

Normal consumption!

The best upgrade for this engine is to find a vl36 turbo and get a tune.
Expect around 180hp but keep in mind that you have to use premium gas after the tune.

Compression should be 200-210psi on this engine.

Good news and some more wonders for me today, took intake pipe off and turbo is like new inside, near polished inner surface and zero shaft play. However the turbo, along with every part of the engine and gearbox have "BFM" wrote on them in paint pen, as a breakers or scrapyard would. Couldn't get to the engine number as it's located abit stupidly under all the intake piping, or would of checked if the numbers match my v5. The turbo is the standard IHI so it's out another 120, does anyone know this breakers company? Are they by any chance a known engine sales company? Would like to find out how many actual miles this engine and gearbox has done, as it seems very fresh, it would also be nice to find out the seemingly shady past of this car. I've got receipts for a timing belt at 70k miles, wonder if this was on the current engine or the previous, why can't owners log changes!
On the bright side though everything seems good, plugs are brand new iridiums, didn't do a compression test as didn't have the right fitting but I'm pretty sure it's good as the car starts good whatever the weather.
