I had the classic spring twang when turning the steering wheel occasionally, a sure sign new top mounts required, it was only one side making a noise so I stripped the suspension strut off, which put up very little resistance which was nice. I attached spring clamps and took off the top mount, it was clear rotating the mount it was not happy. I squirted so oil in it and it freed up, so I literally piped the two parts, apart. Flat bar and very little effort and turns out inside was full of broken down wet grease, grit and misery. Basically the whole internals are like an old bike headset or any race cage bearing so I washed the lot out with degreaser, cleaned dried, filled with some EP grease and assembled, result smooth and ready for another 10 years( maybe) stripped the other side, the grease was fine but redid it anyway. Appreciate the parts are cheap anyway but there was little to no wear to any component just dried up. Pics showing wash stage and regressed prior to assembly. IMG_0755.JPGIMG_0756.JPG

Good human old curiosity of knowledge; I guess you've been very proud of the result, that's how I feel everytime fixing something on car or @ home !?

Job well done mate, keep-on experimenting !!

Kind regards, Bernie

Is there a way to put there (somewhere, somehow) a grease nipple?
To lubricate this crappy design (water intrusion) periodically (without disassembly).

I thought the same thing, even if I could drill a small hole to "inject" some oil which might help me get to good weather next year to do the job better, probably with brand new mounts.
