Hi all, new here.

'57 Grande Punto 1.9 MJ

Gear stick frozen in cold weather (not the reason for posting but probably a problem that will also need addressing...). Trying to move it to break ice (?) and something pops and gear stick is all loose and floppy. I can only access 3rd, neutral and 4th. This lends me to think that the damage is related to the cable used for horizontal motion.

I pop open the bonnet and both linkages are connected at the gearbox. I take off the horizontal cable and try pull it out (with the premise that if the cable had snapped it should slide straight out) however it does not come out. This makes me believe the linkage under the gear stick has popped off.

So I rip out the inside of the cabin thinking I can access it from in there, alas no joy. Car up on ramps and im looking to access the linkages from underneath. Looks like I might have to remove some of the exhaust and perhaps this big heat shield that is in the way.

My query is does anyone have any idea what needs to be removed in order to access these linkages? Would probably be a small section in a Haynes manual if anyone has one...

TIA.
