My fiat Punto grande has just had its indicator/wiper stalk unit replaced because the old one was faulty and everything works fine on the new unit but the car has now immobilised its self I have seen some other posts that mention immobiliser antenna could be faulty or earths could need a better connection but I am wondering if it is because of the new unit I installed any help appreciated.

Make sure you connected everything correctly/reconnect.
The stalk unit shouldn't have anything to do with the immobilizer. But you might have disconnected something while uninstalling/installing the new unit.
I'm not sure how it is on the GP, but for the Stilo/Bravo the antenna can be separability un-clipped and replaced separately.

It's been seen before that connetors have been loosened or wires damage when working in ths area. There may be a connector part way down the column. The antenna is a coil of wire in a ring around the lock bezel. very easy to unplug or damage when working in thee area.
