IMG_20171203_135813.jpegHi all,

Just a little post about my new car.

Mixed views on it. Drove home yesterday. Night and day in comparison to my old car (Hyundai Getz 1.1). Little concerned about reliability, had 2 rear side light bulbs blow and the bottom screw for inside the rear lamp has snapped..

Few questions. It's a 97k mile car, so it needs a few bits. Alignment needs doing, heater/blower resistor needs replacing - any more info on this is appreciated! It also needs at some point a new exhaust.

Rear lights wise, are there any plug and play LED, or tinted rear light's available?

Next: power wise - I'm looking to do an exhaust, induction kit, intercooler, dump Valve or just remove the recirc Valve sensor so it flutters (is this bad for turbo or not?) And then a remap. Hoping for around 180, don't want to go too mad on a high mileage engine even if it has just had cambelt and water pump done.

It crunches between 3rd and 5th sometimes even if driving nicely and gently, so not sure how the gearbox has been treated but hey.

Any info would be appreciated on things like splitters, lip spoilers and general more etc.

But yeah, watch this space!!

Flutter is BAD ... the vibrations will cause turbo death.
For 180 you will need a vl36 turbo (the stock vl37 doesn't like going over ~150).
150% power increase ..should be considered pretty mad.

From all the other mods.. just do the intercooler and maybe the exhaust.
For turbo noise, you can achieve the PSShhhttt noise really easy with no costs. just 1 pet bottle cap.

I've heard it's only bad for it in the long run or when running a lot of boost. I might do it for a day or two and see! Hmm interesting, I read that these Tjets often Dyno at around 140 from standard which may explain why my car feels much quicker than 120...

I'm looking to order an induction kit soon. The BMC one looks awesome but it seems Forge is the loudest!

The long run... means in a 1-3 thousand miles.
Indeed most 120 hp T-jets dyno at more than 120.. but i wouldn't say 140.. most are 125-135 hp.

So let me get this right,

You want to spend money getting a louder induction noise that will also increase your insurance costs, increase your fuel costs and you will go slower?

D
Depends on the induction kit... I don't plan on stopping there so as soon as I add an intercooler it'll cool it down. It might be sucking in slightly warmer air but it's also sucking in a lot more air as it's far less restrictive.

I've never understood why people are like this on forums. Help where you can, but let people get on with their own things. We've all got to life and figure stuff out and have our fun!

Having fun is fine, been there done that, but you are making modifications based on what you read on t'internet.

If you can afford the insurance why didn't you spend the extra money on a faster standard car.

A modified car will always cost much more to insure than a standard faster car.

I work with highly modified cars all day.

I am only trying to make you think about the big picture.

Because right now this is what I can afford and this is what I can do. I want to have a laugh and have some fun. It's my second car so no point in it costing a bomb and mods are done as and when money comes along.

On another note, do you happen to know the front axle load weight?

I am new to this forum.... I have also just bought a GP 1.9 Mjet Sporting 130 ( 2006) with 78,000 miles on it.
I bought it as a second car to commute 350 miles a week on motorways etc. My main car is an Alfa 156 1.9 JTDM 150 remapped to about 190.
One of the main reasons for buying the car was the engine, as its basically the same as my Alfa, although 8v as opposed to 16v, and I know they are very good power units.
I am considering maybe remapping the Fiat at a later date, but the 6 speed box is a weak spot on these cars due to the power/design flaws with the gearbox bearings etc.
In fact it is quite noisy in all gears so it will need attention at some point !

Being new to Fiats ( this is my first !) I have been very impressed with the way it drives, the 6 speed box is so good to use ( its a better change than my Alfa ). I have already done over 1200 miles in it in less than a month !

Apologies for going OT on this thread by the way !

Re the OP wanting to mod his car: I would do the same if I were him, but I would be wary of a remap due to the above issues re the 6 speed box: I have spoken to a Fiat specialist and the OEM bearings in the box are too small and wear out. I also asked about maybe getting a higher 6th gear put in when I get the box refurbished, but apparently that is not possible. I would like the higher final gear to give me more mpg on the motorway...:)
