Hi all,

I've had a wee browse of the forum and can't find too too much on any advice for buying a T-Jet.

Any things to look out for?

I've got my eye on one at the moment for sale and am looking to get it for around £1500. Red, sunroof, cruise control, the norm.. It's got 97k on the clock but had water pump and cambelt done at 80k. Only issue is, none of them are local so it's not easy for me to go and inspect. It seems clean, but obviously photos can be deceiving.

I'd ultimately like to do a remap, fmic, induction kit, lower it, exhaust at some point and some cosmetics. Do you reckon the gearbox is too far into its life at 97k and will cause me lots of problems?

It will be a daily that will be pushed every now and then (with mechanical sympathy of course). I don't mind spending money on it, but not if it's pointless or ridiculous as the bank is not my strongest point right now.

Any advice welcome,

Thanks and hello (I'm new :p )

Nick

The later S2 cars are reckoned to be better built (red badges, black headlights).
Shocks/brakes wear out but parts are very cheap.
The T-jet has the 5 speed box which is vastly more reliable than the terrible 6 speed box fitted to the Sportings and Abarths- failures are rare and 90.000+ miles should be fine if it all works /no noises.
Watch out for the infamous warning lights on cold start- "Hillholder/ESP/Power steering unavailable" This can be many things and can be difficult to track down.
Like all Grande Punto even the later cars suffer from a design fault where the scuttle drain leaks onto the brake servo-can rust through to the footwell.
We have two T-jets- overall have been great- very reliable considering they are getting on a bit now....

Thanks for that info, that's great. The car is quite far away so I want to know if I should rule it out or not. As I said, cambelt and water pump has been done, the car itself has had no major issues with MOT and has just had your rub of the mill issues, only failing 3 times in all its life.

It seems to be clean etc, and it has supposedly been regularly serviced.

It's not the S2 with the red badges, I can't find one that will haggle the price down to £1250. What's the difference between them and is it an absolute case of not buying a blue badge one?
