Hi all,

Just after some help and advice regarding the door electrics on my GP.

The front passenger door has most likely been replaced at some point (slightly off colour) and the car is registered Cat D. Not that I knew that when buying . Gumtree special so what can I say? She runs

The issue is with the electric components in said door, my door speaker and tweeter don't work, the window only works when the door is open, however the central locking does work from the passenger door.

I intend to take a look at the door loom and wiring in the next few days as I want to fix the window, keeps the gf happy, and also upgrade/fix the door speaker to compliment my new stereo (Sony DSX-A400BT which I am really loving).

Could anyone offer any pointers to look out for when I approach this? Common issues or which colour wires power which device, that kind of thing.

I'm crap with this stuff. But that's what you guys are for! :worship:

Appreciate all help.

Thanks :slayer:

As nothing seems to work unless the door is open I would pull back the rubber tube which allows the wires to go between the car and the door where the hinges are.
Have a look for broken wires or damaged insulation around the wire. If your unsure post a picture.
I would do this before you take off the door panel as some things work when door is open suggests fault with this loom.

Thanks for the help mate,

So I pulled back the rubber hose thing that protects the wires in the door, and although I can only see about 2-3cm's worth of cabling due to the tight space, the cables did look to be in decent shape. None broken or frayed as far as I could see.

Next step I think I'm going to take the door trim off and have a closer look. May just wimp out and buy another loom from the scrappers as I think splicing cables and what not is a little out of my comfort zone

Will post updates when I get round to doing it, I may just order some upgraded speakers beforehand and make a day of it, as the standard ones are offensively bad :p they are 6.5" right?

Cheers
